When does it become worth it? 🔋

Earlier today I saw a post from someone who has had their iPhone stop charging at 80% for the past year and they didn’t see much, if any difference in battery health than their coworkers who didn’t do anything, and let the iPhone do its “optimized charging” over

@matt Almost every electric car using the same/similar battery chemistry to your phone limits charging to 80% by default and try hard to encourage you to keep it there. I would presume that they would really prefer to not do that.
@matt My phone has many years ahead of it being handed down to family where it will be lightly used. They won’t want to pay $100 to replace the battery.
I don’t need even close to 80% of my battery most days and so capping it there to help the battery makes sense and doesn’t affect me negatively in any way. When I know I’m going to be using it a lot on a certain day I can up it to 100%. I would like a shortcut action to be able to quickly toggle between the two modes.
@matt Curious, do you use MagSafe charging? I do, my wife doesn’t, and anecdotally it seems my battery has been worse off from it.
@burkettlabs It’s the only way I charge the phone 🫣
