This alternative DNS is up and running. The RFC is informational and appears to be the result of some pretty deep thinking about privacy, crypto and censorship. I would not expect this to overtake DNS as we know it any time soon, but it seems likely that it will be a viable, if niche, alternative. Maybe it already is.
