Bonus: raccoon babies working off their berry high with a playful rumble.

This is a painting of a mega floofy cat and is appropriately named, "Floof." It's cat number 24 in the Close Encounters Collection!

Huge respect 🫡

#opensource

@itsfoss @dwn RESPECT!!!🫡 I want to be a part of them in the future

@itsfoss And PostgreSQL taking on the huge task of managing all the infrastructure data.

@itsfoss If I were them...
@itsfoss example 103876 why everything would be better with a Universal Basic Income.
@itsfoss that is NOT okay. These people need to be sustained, supported and compensated. Don't normalise corporations and commercial interests taking advantage of public property and services without giving back.
Dependency

xkcd
@mattvisi @itsfoss why Nebraska lol
@kkavee @mattvisi @itsfoss the alt text on the XKCD helps to explain things like that. If on mobile the mobile version of the page is easier to do so: https://m.xkcd.com/2347/
xkcd: Dependency

@itsfoss While this is mostly true, this is not entirely true. FOSS is nearly universal in commercial apps (97% contains some). So almost everything. While the overwhelming majority of contributor are already employed full-time and more than half (52%) are specifically paid to develop FOSS. Take another example, 67% of contributors where paid to work on GNOME. While a lot of maintainers are not paid, it is not a fatality.

@itsfoss That's said all contributors should unionize and tear-down the capitalist system to replace it with a cooperative one inspired by hacker's ethos. Something like socialism.
@dallo @itsfoss A project losing 30-50% of its developers still isn't sustainable. Those devs are needed & unpaid, which justifies the meme. 😉
@Natanox @itsfoss Well I would love to see more public/social funded FOSS, but the current present is still interesting. FOSS is so effective that even corporation are funding it. Yes the meme still stand (pun intended), but I like to remind that some of us a paid to contribute to FOSS. We should generalize that (and don't forget to unionize to fight back)
@itsfoss
-Mom, i'm hungry!
-We have some respect in the house
@flan @itsfoss I pay electricity bills with my respect.
@itsfoss & QA testers like me
@itsfoss Nameless ants.
@SenseException @itsfoss Even if you name and cherish and pay your ants, there's still a lot of free elephant rides happening.
@itsfoss you can replace open source with closed system and the tag to underpaid devs.....
@itsfoss time to stop that shit rather
@itsfoss Just like an ant, unpaid oss devs can carry 50x their own weight in workload.
Also like ants, they're attracted to sweets, so tip an oss dev so they can get themselves a pick me up.
@itsfoss This picture is very accurate.
@itsfoss haha, @loreabad6 this describes pretty well what we were talking about earlier 🫣
@itsfoss Just the fact that an upside-down pyramid like this is doesn't just collapse under its own weight is such a testament to the power of passion and foss. The world does NOT need profit motives and oppression to thrive, we thrive IN SPITE of them
@itsfoss if you let the elephant fall, the world would be a better place
@itsfoss Tributes without compensation is eye-washing. The meme is supposed to trigger conversation about properly compensating the "unpaid devs". In the world of commons, free riders who make profit out of the commons should be penalized or make them contribute financially to the projects they depend on.
@itsfoss the sand holding the ants / developers : unpaid care labour of their families & other care workers in the society, usually gender & racially discriminated … cc @grimalkina @sphakos
@itsfoss ant... so the world runs on Java? 😊
