Overheard:
"What’s with all the orange smoke?" asked Piglet.
"Oh, that's Trump's ass getting burned by the Rule of Law,” replied Pooh.
Another sad moment from VA: “Virginia Republican lawmaker Tim Anderson just announced he is suing Barnes and Noble for selling books that promote LGBTQIA+ rights. It is no longer just about banning books in schools - they are now coming for private businesses.”
I’m reminded that before WWII VA had euthanasia laws on the books for the mentally ill and “sexually deviant”. Germany sent people to study them.

We do not have to live like this. No other country on the planet does.
I really hope that progressives turn off the lizard brain response of "TikTok is good because Republicans say it's bad."
No, TikTok is bad.
The enemy of your enemy isn't necessarily your friend.
Is their opposition based on nationalism, racism, and yellow peril? Probably.
Is TikTok still monitoring and tracking teenagers, feeding them unhealthy content based on "relevancy" algorithms, screwing with their mental health? Yes.
All surveillance capitalism should be banned.
The GOP is losing its voters. It gets most of its strength from older voters. But many of them won’t even be around for the next census.
Meanwhile, younger millennials and Gen Z vote overwhelmingly for the Democrats. But rather than adjust and adapt their policies, Republicans have doubled down on extremism.
We know how this ends.
I don't think journalists (in general) -- and certainly not the organizations they work for -- fully understand the threat Musk represents to the future of free expression and journalism itself.
Begging him to reinstate the banned accounts is pure folly. It is bended-knee supplication to a sociopath who now controls a powerful media company. But the power of his company depends in no small degree on keeping journalists there.
Leave. Now.

Social media as people know it today - platforms that seek to use algorithms to drive “engagement” in order to increase profit or revenue - will always, inevitably, amplify the voices of people who know how to manipulate other people, and trigger their basest instincts. And as a result, that model will always amplify and promote pathological behavior in our society.
In other words, a market-driven, algorithm-driven model is bad for society at large. Inevitably.
