Another sad moment from VA: “Virginia Republican lawmaker Tim Anderson just announced he is suing Barnes and Noble for selling books that promote LGBTQIA+ rights. It is no longer just about banning books in schools - they are now coming for private businesses.”

I’m reminded that before WWII VA had euthanasia laws on the books for the mentally ill and “sexually deviant”. Germany sent people to study them.

@BakerRL75 Didn’t they try this last year and it was thrown out of Court? Is this the same lawsuit or a different one?
@silly122 Diffierent. New state legislation to go through.
@BakerRL75 @silly122 looks like this is actually from august and that it was thrown out to me. Getting me all riled up for something that is ultimately over… ugh! Either way I stand by my last comment!
@BakerRL75 1. Case is dismissed, 2. Defendant recovers costs, 3. Court orders sanctions.
@Onlineadviser Yes, I get it. But you fail to realize that this will go through the state system first. And that’s a LOT of publicity in a state that’s already bannng books in the southern counties. It really is: does Boarders take the loss of customers and business disruption and costs? It’ll be interesting to see. Youngkin has made it ridiculously easy to do stuff like this.
@BakerRL75
It's official, they're coming for 1A, after all the whining and protesting about "Democrats coming for 2A" they outright intend to end "free speech" in all it's iterations.
@BakerRL75 a few months after Biden was elected I had decided that we aren’t in for a civil war in the United States… I stand corrected. I feel like we are on the precipice of a very fragile ledge yet again. I’m a non violent person on the whole, but keep fucking around with our rights and they will find out we are weak leftist snow flakes
@BakerRL75 that will go nowhere & whatever lawyer took that will be sanctioned.
@BakerRL75 I will believe he has filed a lawsuit when he has found a lawyer willing to take the case and a judge who doesn’t throw it out immediately. This is RW virtue signaling: performative exercises designed to signal to the Republican base that they are just as bigoted and intolerant as the base requires.
@BakerRL75 forget that, SCOTUS upheld sterilization laws for the mentally ill in Buck v Bell. It is one of the worst opinions ever written insomuch as it eviscerated individual rights without a truly compelling governmental interest.
@BakerRL75 Gonna go support my local B&N.
