I recently finished up a private long-form #Drupal basics course for a development team from a financial services firm. Over the past few years, the vast majority of our beginner students are from organizations who contract with us to train their developer teams. 🏢

For me, the alarm bells are ringing that we aren't seeing more individuals seeking out beginner Drupal training. In talking to other training providers, I know that we are not alone. 🔔😟

I don't think I have ever read a more concise and yet thorough explanation of my own observations, conclusions, and fears as a 20+ year veteran technology professional and 15 year SRE veteran.

We are actively tearing down the hard fought wins for ourselves and our customers in the chase for the MBAs and business idiots and the institutional knowledge and processes that solved huge problems are the victims of this AI circlejerk.

The AI Great Leap Forward

In 1958, Mao ordered every village to produce steel. The steel was useless. The crops rotted. Today's top-down AI mandates are producing the same pattern: ba...

If there's a nicer person in the #Drupal community, then I haven't met them yet. @Weekbeforenext is a more-than-worthy recipient of this award! 🏆🎉

(Seriously, if there's someone nicer, let me know, I'd love to meet them!) 😊🌟

Taco Tuesday should not be this fucking stressful.

It's clear that AI assisted coding is dividing developers (welcome to the culture wars!). I've seen a few blog posts now that talk about how some people just "love the craft", "delight in making something just right, like knitting", etc, as opposed to people who just "want to make it work". As if that explains the divide.

How about this, some people resent the notion of being a babysitter to a stochastic token machine, hastening their own cognitive decline. Some people resent paying rent to a handful of US companies, all coming directly out of the TESCREAL human extinction cult, to be able to write software. Some people resent the "worse is better" steady decline of software quality over the past two decades, now supercharged. Some people resent that the hegemonic computing ecosystem is entirely shaped by the logic of venture capital. Some people hate that the digital commons is walled off and sold back to us. Oh and I guess some people also don't like the thought of making coding several orders of magnitude more energy intensive during a climate emergency.

But sure, no, it's really because we mourn the loss of our hobby.

Why are people born after Gen Z called Gen Alpha and not Gen AA like a spreadsheet column
