This week is STROOOONG for #indiedev. I’ve already played a tonne of Slay the Spire II, and I’m diving into Esoteric tonight. The industry may be rough, but gamers be feasting out here.

Headed to GDC next week?!

🛍️ @iam8bit.com will be selling Playdate systems (tariff free!!) in their shop — get one!

📅 March 9th - 13th

I finished up Mass Effect 1 yesterday, and hot damn does that game still hold up. There are some moments that are definitely victim to the design sensibilities of the times, but its ability to tell scan impactful a succinct story in under 20 hours is incredible.

It’s hard to reconcile how BioWare went from this to where they are today. It’s honestly really sad.

Steam is flooded with demos for #NextFest so there’s a bit of a slow week. Still, we have some great #indiegame recommendations this week.

Hiring adventures, dicey roguelites, and avenging cats - Indie Dispatch

Hello friends, and welcome to another Indie Dispatch. Last week we launched out Next Fest demo, and now I am preparing for a seemingly never-ending slew of events, so I’ve been tired. I haven’t played that much, and I certainly haven’t been playing any of the cool indies that have hit Next Fest that I do want to check out before it ends. Instead I have been curling up on the couch for 30 minute chunks at the end of long soul crushing days, making my way through the final hours of Mass Effect.

@tokyohomo may the gaijin’s noses be tall and their mouths be big and white

Working in the games industry is pretty rough at the moment. There was barely any security before the dark times, but now it feels like you need to hang onto anything you can and hope this all shakes out in our favour.

Stay strong out there #indiedevs, and remember to look after your mental health. It’s a priority!

@renkotsuban I am in desperate need to learn Japanese for real, and I have no option but to self study. Any experience with Bunpro? I have the core 2K deck on Anki but want something for grammar.

Also, what would be your recommendo for Kanji? I am nearly 40 and I don't want to keep learning "Mary is American and goes to high school" like Genki does for 8793647384 chapters if possible.

Steam Next Fest - February 2026 is live with tons of demos

Here we go again, a mad dash to play as many demos as possible with the Steam Next Fest - February 2026 event now live.

Want to see what I’ve been working on for the past year? AWAYSIS is a physics-based dungeon brawler for 1-4 players. We only have local co-op in the demo, but it will have online cross-platform multiplayer at launch. Demo is live right now as part of #nextfest https://store.steampowered.com/app/3334760/Awaysis/

Awaysis on Steam

The ultimate dungeon brawler. A revolutionary, physics-fueled throwdown where you’ll jump, slide, and collide on your adventure to restore peace to the Awaysis - an ancient floating relic under attack by forces of great darkness!

After a week of using PieFed I think I’m ready to give up Reddit. In the future if I can’t find the answer in the Fediverse I will look it up on reddit, and then create a thread to add the info for someone else who is surely also going to look for the answers over there one day.

Feels good to have a bit more control of the internet in these weird times.
