@FeministKelly @BigAngBlack There has been something nagging at me (which is my problem, no one else’s). Who made male designed sports the gold standard to be embraced in a “league of their own” style? I’m a fan of synchronized swimming. Women created it and it takes as an amazing amount of skill and stamina. They defend it too! https://www.theatlantic.com/culture/archive/2021/08/tokyo-olympics-synchronized-swimming-artistic-name-change/619693/
Tokyo Olympics: Where Did ‘Synchronized Swimming’ Go?”

More than 30 years after its Olympic debut, the sport was rebranded as “artistic swimming”—a controversial move that athletes fear could backfire.

@jorijn wishing you many years!
@bobcalhoun I think what the US did was smart, but I am unsure if it was intentional. Bring it down over land and you probably couldn’t retrieve much. The water impact might actually allow a retrieval of useful info. The balloons are classic intelligence gathering tools. Stay airborne longer, fly higher than drones/planes. Cheaper than satellites. So this is a spy vs spy thing, methinks.
@jorijn best wishes on the comeback!
@heidilifeldman the balloons have several advantages. They fly higher than drones and aircraft, are less detectable, remain airborne longer, can stay over a region for a longer period of time and are cheaper than satellites. It sounds like a silly thing to do but actually it is amazingly cost effective tool for some intelligence gathering objectives.
@zhivi @BlackMastodon in Sunday School
@zhivi this is an unknown in Florida since African American studies has “no educational value.” DeSantis is replicating Alabama’s behavior by denying people an education. I bet few Alabamans who were part of those segregationist demonstrations would admit it now. So it will be, years later, for Floridians who back their Governor’s ideology. One day this too will pass. Alas! We must wait to exhale!#blackmastodon #blacktwitter #SocialJustice #dei #history #blackhistorymonth
@zhivi @BlackMastodon I’d love to see something like this done regarding the motivations behind Slavery and Abolition involvement from faith groups. https://www.npr.org/sections/codeswitch/2018/06/04/613683819/exploding-myths-about-black-power-jewish-politics
@zhivi @BlackMastodon I wonder what one can say about the Christian involvement in the Slave Trade, or the sub-Saharan West African involvement. All equal contenders for the “legacy shame award.” Perhaps Muslims also get honorable mention. I mean if we are going to point fingers. Just sayin’ we can all point at one another.
