Yes, that one. Not the cricketer.

The one that:
Does some stuff with IT at Loughborough University &&
tinkers with electronics and home automation &&
runs around chasing racing cars* &&
used to be involved with exim.org.

The one that's also been diagnosed with metastatic prostate cancer.

WHY WAS IT CALLED SINGLE-SIGN ON WHEN SIGN-ON 37 TIMES PER DAY WAS RIGHT THERE

Ugh. Had my second shot of testosterone suppressing stuff today.

I am SO HOT. And I do not mean that figuratively, like SO HOT BABY, I mean I feel like I'm going to set things alight just by touching them.

I'm beginning to have a much better understanding of what 50% of the population goes through at some point in their lives, naturally, without any intervention. At least mine has a cause I can point at.

Related: still not feeling actually ill, though, despite being ill.

Regex isn't hard enough, so I present you with a crossword where all hints are regular expressions!

I confess at first it looked like the hints don't contain enough information to solve the puzzle but after some slow but steady progress I can confirm that they do 🤣

The original puzzle is from https://puzzles.mit.edu/2013/coinheist.com/rubik/a_regular_crossword/

I shared this on my blog: https://mathspp.com/blog/problems/regex-crossword

A Regular Crossword -- COINHEIST

I have an oncology appointment next week. With one...

Dr Faust.

I'm not kidding. And I'm entering into no pacts, either!

How to start the day catastrophically:

The milk went off. No tea.

GivEnergy has a post up now, so I guess I'll spill. Their cloud controlled energy management systems are in tens of thousands of homes. Hundreds of MWh of grid connected battery storage in total.

I used a lot of math to make myself an API token as "admin". I could've started them all charging or discharging simultaneously.

They get a gold star for their response: A calm, polite reply to my report, and a same-day fix. Pleasant follow-up communication.

Blog post with details to follow.

Leaving my dignity at home, I've been poked and prodded and examined and had the Fibre Optic of Doom up the old chap, happily showing a clear bladder.

I've got a few days until I get the results of the bone scan. And until tomorrow, I'll be fizzing gently as the 99m-Technetium in me decays to a far more stable isotope.

A few weeks ago I peed blood. Long story short - it wasn't a UTI, so I got examined (ouch). In Imperial measures, my prostate was no longer a walnut, more like an orange. In metric I believe this is like a ping pong ball compared to a tennis ball.

Bloods followed. The dreaded PSA level was astronomical, over 1200. Oh.

So! Here we are. August 2024.

I'm sitting down the garden, a meter or so from a Tasmota-powered background radiation monitor, that I've had for a few months.

What do you mean, that's nerdy? Of course it is! But why is that significant? Because today I've been for a bone scan. And why? Because I've got #prostate #cancer.
