#ThrowbackThursday My first trip to fascinating Everglades National Park on this day in 2011, after having spent 29 years in South Florida. It took having our neighbors from Italy visit to finally us get there. A great blue heron watches us from the bank. #Nature

For #ThickTrunkTuesday I offer the old buttonwood tree set in the mangroves behind our old house in Marathon, Florida. For twenty years, I tied orchids into the crotch of the tree and onto its branches with palm tree bark and fishing line when they stopped blooming, or when we headed out to Italy for the summer. The hardy ones survived iguanas and hurricanes and kept going. The neighbors couldn’t understand why we didn’t cut the tree down to open up the water view, but I loved that old tree.
