@mwichary @mihaip Two geniuses working together. I am on a slow internet on the road right now, so I have to work through the rest of it later—the more complicated emulators aren't loading.
I am absolutely gobsmacked by how amazing this is—a new kind of storytelling?

I wrote something new! It’s a UI design history essay about Mac’s Control Panel, and it uses emulation in some… maybe new and maybe interesting ways? https://aresluna.org/frame-of-preference

@mwichary (editors never stop poking)

I think you’ve invented a new kind of storytelling. Not just embedding the emulator, which is cool and I gather not unique, but the narrative you wrap around it. I love something that can only be told in one medium—to duplicate this article, you can't do anything but create a machine or environment capable of emulation.

@mwichary This is a goddamned tour de force. Congratulations. Incredible.

I quibble with one thing: "outside of the title bar, there is absolutely no text present here.” But do you mean words? Numbers are text in my thinking! As opposed to only symbolic elements.

The last of the 2024 How Comics Were Made are now off—sold as an add-on signed edition to folks who backed my Six Centuries book.

@rick_baumhauer I found the footnote—“occasionally” tripped me up. I think it's actually “routinely" or "regularly." Another reader emailed and said they see this regularly with their 80% charge limit, too!

"In the same broadcast, Quinones said: 'Don’t do business with Indians,' adding: 'We got an app down here that some of the guys at the Alabama Old Glory Club are doing, which is to show which gas stations and hotels are not owned by Indians here.'

https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2025/jul/05/far-right-mens-clubs-old-glory

Revealed: the far-right, antisemitic men’s club network spreading across US

Old Glory Club has at least 26 chapters with participants including military personnel, lawyers and civil servants

The Guardian
And now we are getting close to having the world‘s first trillionaire. That’s just nuts. Good for you, you won capitalism, and we all forgotten what an 80% marginal tax rate looks like? We had one under a republican president and the world did not end

Republicans just passed the most horrific and devastating piece of legislation in a generation, and establishment Democrats are spending their time attacking a fellow Democrat who doubled youth turnout and won the primary with historic numbers. Just Fantastic.

@QasimRashid

The Democratic Party should be renamed "The Washington Generals"

;-)

@Lily_and_frog @QasimRashid
Don’t conflate corruption with ineptitude.

@freediverx @QasimRashid

Corruption and ineptitude are deeply linked and the road between the two goes both ways, reinforcing each other.

There even comes a point where
Any sufficiently advanced inept organisation is indistinguishable from being corrupt.

@Lily_and_frog @QasimRashid
I think our government deserves to be condemned for its corruption and fascism (across both parties) rather than given an excuse by mocking them as incompetent.

@freediverx @QasimRashid

Ah, okay. I thought you were trying to make the opposite point.

Do you know who the Washington Generals, the basketball team, are?

@Lily_and_frog @QasimRashid
Yes and I get the reference that their job is to play incompetently.
@QasimRashid in all sincerity I think this is overstated. It is not ALL DEMOCRATS. There are endorsements coming forward. I for one feel we live in a country with 2 parties and I for one do not believe at all both parties are the same. Nothing in the Biden administration predicted a Harris administration would have a Gestapo grabbing people off the streets to send to Alligator Alley.
@Doeshecook I mean, @QashimRashid is a Democrat and has run as a Democratic candidate for state offices before
So I think he has some insight into dynamics within the party
@ProcessParsnip I have been active in the party in 2 states knocking doors, phone banking, voter registration since the Clinton administration.
@QasimRashid In times of crisis some people step up. We now know that doesn’t include the current Democratic Party.
@QasimRashid Democrats are addicted to losing apparently.
@ScottyC @QasimRashid
No, they’re addicted to campaign funds from billionaires and AIPAC.
@QasimRashid It gives you real insight into what the Democratic Party insiders actually value, and what they consider an actual threat. It's been clear since 2016 the Democrats would prefer fascism to socialism, or even social democracy.

@carcosa @QasimRashid

We've all talked to death about how the #MAGA wing took over & warped the #RepublicanParty

We need to have the same conversation about how #CitizensUnited enabled #neoliberal #CorporateDemocrats to take over & warp the #DemocraticParty

It started out the party of Southern slaveholders & their lackeys - #autocrats #Oligarchs & enablers... it morphed into a coalition btw #Labor & #CivilRights flanks

Let's face it, the party's returning to its roots

@QasimRashid
You don't see any irony in attacking Democrats for attacking Democrats?

(I was actually curious how you would blame the Democrats for this bill. At least you're consistent.)

@QasimRashid Wrong solutions, take the wheel!

@QasimRashid

That looks like one person. With a name.

Yet you are attacking a broad, vague group.

Hard to trust this kind of behavior.

@QasimRashid "Reps just passed most horrific and devastating piece of legislation in a generation, and Democrats are spending their time attacking a fellow Democrat"

What US needs is to become a full grown democracy with multiple parties, at least 6, based on whatever creed or whatever ethnical group, but ready to form coalitions.
A coalition can get things done in a way acceptable to the majority.
In today's 2-party system laws will change on a daily basis. Will you start the New Party?

@zvhxxl @QasimRashid and for a third party to be viable, we need structural change to our election processes. Some of the first things we need to get rid of are closed party primaries that reward extremism, and our archaic "first past the post" voting rule.
@sspopovich @QasimRashid
" Some of the first things we need to get rid of are closed party primaries that reward extremism, and our archaic "first past the post" voting rule."
Fully agree om that!!
But from outside the US: you have to do the job, you have to change this. For a democratic government you need informed citizens who vote for a party that supports their interest.
So Jeff Bezos will vote for biljon-party and all US workers will not be smart enough to start their own workers Party.
@zvhxxl @QasimRashid
Does it matter if there are 2 or 6 political parties, if they share the same views on human rights, and only are different in how much to spend on this or that?
If Democratic party is as racist as Republican, does an addition of a Libertarian, a Green and a "Funny Last opion" parties change that? Or would it remove the legal option to buy your politicians?
#USpol

@QasimRashid

King Knucklehead's chaotic budget makes even Reagaanomics seem tenable in historic comparison.

I predict that within one single year we will be in a full-blown depression.

I would love to be wrong.

@rexi I've been in a full-blown depression since day one.

@QasimRashid

I just went through your recent posts and almost all of them are attacking Democrats and barely any attacking Nazis.

Makes me wonder who's side you're on.

#Solidarity

@billyjoebowers @QasimRashid
More than one problem can exist and be addressed at the same time. And while everyone everywhere is attacking the Nazis currently (including OP), that alone is not sufficient while the Democratic Party is massively dysfunctional, as we saw in the last election. And unlike the Nazis, the Democratic Party might be salvageable with intensive and widespread pressure applied.

You aren't going to improve the situation by shilling for establishment dems, villifying disaffected voters, or knee-jerk whataboutism.

@me_valentijn

You're just making up someone to argue with, I didn't say those things.

@billyjoebowers
You have said those things repeatedly in your other replies.
@QasimRashid With these Dems, who needs republicans.
@QasimRashid
Establishment Democrats are just Repulican receivers of corporate money wearing blue instead of red...there is little difference in policy to be found - enrich the donors and hoodwink the voters to keep the gravy train running.
@QasimRashid
I'm not sure the Dems have a leader yet. A bigger than life speaker others will follow. AOC and Representative Crockett have potential, and Senator Sanders is providing more fire than one would expect. Maybe Senator Warren could take that role. She's mad enough at what's happening.
@stargazersmith warren? The former federalist society member?!? Nah, fuck that.
@zeroarg
I tried looking that up. I found no reference of Warren being a member of the Federalist society. It doesn't sound likely either. Maybe you have a better source.
@QasimRashid @stufromoz centrist, supposedly progressive, parties are no better than the conservatives they pretend to oppose.
@QasimRashid The same as happens in the UK, our supposed Social democratic party spends more effort attacking the left than the far right.
@QasimRashid Perfect is the enemy of good.
