We need electoral reform! 🙏

"To say 'Canadians voted for a minority' is to describe an intention that no voter expressed & no ballot could capture. It is fiction dressed as fact."

Canadians do not have a place on their ballot to vote for a party, or *for a governmrnt*. We vote locally. Only. With first-past-the-post, the governing party (often) in no way represents % of votes cast.

Ex: in Ontario, our Premier was re-elected (again 🤦‍♀️) by just 18% of eligible voters.

What a fusilli idea. He tried to rigatoni his returns. He’s no capellini (angel hair). He’ll probably be sued, too, and face a tortellini. He had gnocchi idea what he was getting into. https://www.nytimes.com/2026/04/18/us/lego-theft-pasta-california.html?unlocked_article_code=1.cFA.4JUX.-aZ58pwG_8rZ&smid=nytcore-ios-share Will he face the ultimate penalty and be sentenced to mortadella? In the Big Penne, he’ll be farfalle from freedom. He could go stool pigeon and tagliatelle everything. But he might try to escape and bucatini out of there. But he’ll probably crash the getaway car and get in an orecchiette.
Man Charged in Lego Theft Scheme of Replacing Pieces With Pasta, Police Say

A California man was charged with grand theft after the police said he reaped about $34,000 in what an official called an “off the charts” pasta-and-switch scheme involving Lego kits.

Got an Aventon Level 3 Step Through! A great class of bike at the price—discount because the Level 4 has already replaced it and inventory is being sold through.
I expect I’ll eventually get a Leaf. I was planning on a 2022–2024 model year (for battery warranty and features), but the CHAdeMO charging issue would be a problem if we wanted to reliably and easily use it for longer drives (we have a second car in good shape). Now I’m thinking about waiting for 2026 models to get discounted later in the year. That model switched to NACS. But they’re so expensive relative to used, maybe due to the charging issue.

I was going to sell our old, not-yet-beater, but not-great-mileage Honda Fit to buy a used Nissan Leaf. But then our older kid needs a car for summer work (unusual for them), so despite them being a better driver than me, I didn’t want to give them a new-ish car, particularly because it will involve driving to a mountaineering camp (if they get the job)!

So I’m about to go test ride a new electric bike instead! WA state offers a rebate lottery, and I got picked—$300 credit!

Posting this here to give all the macOS Tahoe users a little nostalgic dopamine.

I’ll say I have been very happy with Premera, which approved without a delay every single procedure I needed last year leading up to and including my heart valve replacement. This is certainly in part due to our active and assertive insurance commissioner’s office in Washington State.

Reposting this XKCD#3233 because the bots over here have horribly wrong alt text. #xkcd

I cannot tell you how much I love this game, which can result in absurdly high scores due to rainbow squares.

In today’s historical breaking news, the Wright Brothers were apparently printers—building their own press from scratch—before becoming flyers. I guess they also printed flyers, along with running a newspaper briefly. Fortunately for us, the newspaper folded. https://airandspace.si.edu/stories/editorial/wright-before-aviators

It’s these kinds of news and “jokes” you’ll find in my upcoming book, the production of which was fully funded on Kickstarter, “Flong Time, No See.” You can pre-order here: https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/glennf/flong-time-no-see

Before the Wrights Were Aviators

Orville and Wilbur Wright weren't always pioneering aeronautical engineers.
