The recent Intel debacles compel me to narcissistically share this interview I did with Colin Percival on hyperthreading problems back in 2005.

Folks told Intel this was a bad idea more than a decade ago. They did not fix their shit.

I've disabled HT on every machine ever since. They called me mad, but now I'm all "u mad?"

Theo's right. Disable HT all around.

ONLamp.com: Information Security with Colin Percival

Michael W. Lucas interviews Colin Percival about side-channel attacks on cryptographic algorithms running on hyperthread-enabled machines.

Even if i scroll down, incoming toots drag my view back up instantly; i can't look at any toot for more than 1/10th of a second. That can't be how it's supposed to work, right

I'm still trying to figure out how to use Mastodon from a philosophical level. I like that mastodon.social is diverse, but the firehose is overwhelming.

A more focused instance seems like it'd be more manageable, but could lead to silos, or pigeonhole me into one specific interest group.

I thought maybe federation was the answer to this, but I think it just adds to the deluge of toots?

What is the Right Way to handle this? I keep thinking I'm missing something obvious.

@ellavescent Ink cats!
To the surprise of absolutely nobody, two "devops-y" programs written in Node.js and in Go do not understand IPv6 only domain names.

folks i'm gonna be real honest with you...

i NEED this Mastodon thing to take off because i just ordered 80,000 of these bumper stickers from the printer, and i can't afford to be caught holdin' my junk if this whole thing fizzles.

please consider my personal commercial interests when choosing a social media platform, thk u!
