I indulge in a little photography for fun. These days mostly of nature, zoos and my cats.

My current cameras are a Sony DSC-RX10 IV (1" sensor bridge) and a Nikon D7000.

I shoot in RAW and I process my photos using free open source software - making initial adjustments in Darktable and then doing final touch up in GIMP (using the G'MIC plugin for some processing).

I popped back to the Hinskey Heights Nature Trail on a sunny day this week - it's been just over a month since my last visit - and there were still a few dragonflies and damselflies out and about. Mostly common darters I think - this one alighted in the same place as one last month!

A hot afternoon spent in marshland is an uncomfortable experience but with patience and determination you can find treasures.

A dragonfly perched on a small wooden pier at Hinksey Heights Nature Trail. I think it's a Common Darter, but please let me know if it's not!

The Sony DSC-RX10M4 suffers a bit from softness the further you go with the aperture from its sweet spot of f/4. I shot a burst of 5 shots at f/5.6 and happened to get 3 shots at very slightly different focal lengths which I could manually stack.

I believe this hoverfly is helophilus pendulus - a hoverfly that has the nickname of "Footballer" due to the stripes on its thorax.

The lockhouse at Iffley Lock on the Thames/Isis. The lock was first built in 1631, with its most rebuild being in 1923. This stone lockhouse was built in 1810.

My Abyssinian has recently figured out that the backdoor key has something to do with me/us going outside - occasionally during the day I will randomly hear a jingle as he bats it (we moved here about 8 months ago).

A wren in Wytham Woods near Oxford.

I frequently hear them singing when I walk in the woods but can rarely spot them. This one was kind enough to perch nice and low and in a patch of sunshine.
