i am back from #magfest and here are my thoughts!

i had an amazing time sharing my little #pico8 game! It was beautiful to see so many people try it out and to both see and hear their reactions to it. i sold a bunch of little nfc "cartridges" with itch download links.

definitely recommend applying to magfest indie dev showcase. the other games were all so lovely. i felt blessed to be included among them! you can check a lot of them out here: https://magfest.itch.io/

the people at magfest are top notch. the MIVS staff were very helpful throughout. i definitely recommend applying with your games for 2027 and making the pilgrimage to DC ^_^

personally, showing my game here felt like the end of this game's story arc. my little free to play game is not trying to make money, or make me famous. i just wanted to make it and see it out there in the world, and this really made me feel like i did it. i'm feeling both exhausted and restored at the same time.

Hi, so it's been a few weeks since the release of adrift ( https://www.lexaloffle.com/bbs/?pid=174240 )

as a treat i get to work on new little games now. working on a prototype for flight movement... it's like flappy bird but you can glide i guess?

adrift 1.1 https://www.lexaloffle.com/bbs/?tid=151633

minor changes, so let's talk about my struggles with cart size.

initially the dialogue was a mess of tables. writing it was confusing, editing it was worse, and the endless braces used up my tokens. when i got to 3 planets, it became untenable. so i created some code to parse a human readable script. this removed so many tokens! i wrote most of the rest of the dialogue.

so... i've sorta lost track, but roughly two or three years ago i started making this little game. today I'm happy, but also a little sad, to be finally letting it go into the world. it's been a way for me to process so much.

i hope playing it will make you sad, thoughtful, and maybe make you laugh a little.

please boost if you think other folks would enjoy it too.

hey there. so i've been quiet, but quietly working, and the good news is that after adding one last feature (that play testers kept asking for, and i kept putting off), i think ADRIFT is finally done! I'm playtesting my release candidate now, and I'm going to release version 1.0 to the pico8 bbs on the fall equinox... Sept 21st! In just two weeks ^_^

progress on my little game has been very good this last month. in no particular order i have:

* settled on a final set of 10 planets
* finished 3-5 endings, depending on how you count.
* added credits and a lot of polish
* despite all that shrunk the compressed code size from ~110% to 99.9%
* and....

i've come up with a name: adrift

hope i can have this in a state where i feel proud releasing it soon. i'd love to hear anybody else's experience knowing when to release their games.

did you wish you had polished it more? did you wish you had released it earlier? have you gotten any good advice about how to know when it's done (enough)?

here's another little gif ^_^

been up late working on my little game. taking a break to play some games in splore, and found "Will the Man Get Frog" https://www.lexaloffle.com/bbs/?pid=131786

So cute.

here's my little haiku. if you make one too share it ^_^

progress on my sad game continues!

now i'm working on streamlining some of the rougher planets, and on the endings. compressed code size is at 105% even with some hacks, so i'll need to be clever to get it released, but i'll worry about that when the game is mostly done.

i still need to figure out a name

here's the first planet i made for my #pico8 game. i'll post more little planet previews soon ^_^

also... play testing is a good motivator. every time i test i go from not knowing what to do next to knowing EXACTLY what i need to fix, and being excited to work on it

i've been working on a sad game about death and finding meaning. i'll be posting some screenshots and gifs of the progress as i work towards my little release. #pico8
