FAIR for Machine Learning; Building on the Lessons from FAIR Software

Ensuring that data are FAIR is nowadays a clear expectation across all science domains, as a result of many years of global efforts. Research software, has only just started to receive the same level of attention in recent years, with targeted actions towards the definition of the FAIR principles as applied to research software, as well as concerted efforts around reproducibility, quality, and sustainability. Given the rapid rise of ML as a key technology across all science domains, it is important to build on our collective experience, and already start addressing the challenges ahead of us, towards making ML FAIR. These are slides that were presented at the 4th Workshop on Metadata and Research (objects) Management for Linked Open Science - DaMaLOS 2024, co-located with ESWC on 26th May 2024, Hersonissos, Crete, Greece.

It's pretty clear that tools such as github pages and quarto are not generating pages that are accessible (accessible in the sense of making it easier for people with visual impairments). Any ideas why this is not a priority for developers? There is a point when European law will star being enforced and then there'll be a swing back to using powerpoint which does a better job here.

Do you have a great idea to make scientific software better & want to share it with the community? Are you affiliated with a US-based institution that can receive federal funding?

Apply now for the 2024 Better Scientific Software (BSSw) Fellowship Program (until 29 Sep 2023), to get $25k for activities that promote better scientific software through a publicly-available artifact

This supports all career stages & especially seeks those from underrepresented groups

Applications Open for the 2024 BSSw Fellowship Program

Applications are now open for the 2024 BSSw Fellowship Program, which gives recognition and funding to leaders and advocates of high-quality scientific software.

@Ka_Heil presenting the @ELIXIREurope #Training platform #ELIXIR23. It's one of the most positive, enthusiastic and active communities of like-minded people! Really proud to be a member, and for the opportunity to co-lead the efforts together with @jessicalindvall @EvaAlloza 🙏💯
@NBlomberg giving a perspective on the strong and vibrant Community spirit of @ELIXIREurope across time #ELIXIR23. "It's the people that matter" is the key message; communicating, having a common understanding of the challenges, and ultimately building the future together.
@denshields giving a "tour" of the structure, goals and vision of the ELIXIR-IE Node @ELIXIREurope #ELIXIR23. Really happy to see #Training, #ResearchSoftware and #MachineLearning featuring there! Looking forward to (even more) interactions with the community here.
Almost at the end of the 3,000km trek to this year's @ELIXIREurope All Hand Meeting in Dublin. Really looking forward to the next 4 days and all the discussions around #Trainibg, #ResearchSoftware, #MachineLearning and #Biodiversity! Stay tuned! ;) #ELIXIR23 👀
