The #FDroid website has a new banner on top to remind visitors that #Google did not change course and #Android will be locked-down in under 200 days.

If you care about the freedom to control your devices and care about the privacy of you data, please contact your representative and make your voice heard.

https://keepandroidopen.org/ (thanks @marcprux) has the resources to guide you.

We know users will rarely visit the site so the Client(s) will get a banner soon too.

Thank you for your support!

Keep Android Open

Your phone is about to stop being yours. In September 2026, Google will block every Android app whose developer hasn't registered with them.

This is how starved for competition we are. Pixel 10a just dropped, and Vivo said "hold my beer".
The V70 will have:
* Better display
* Better fingerprint sensor
* THREE cameras (with better sensors,.and Vivo definitely gives Google a run for their money in image processing)
* A 25% larger battery that charges significantly faster
* DOUBLE the storage at the same price.
Matching the storage on the 10a will cost around $100 more than the Vivo.
We're not getting the best competition in the USA. Google and Samsung are getting really lazy with mid-ranger phones.

Phones are computers, and now phones around $500 have largely passed that threshold I describe as "overkill for daily needs". Testing the new Vivo V70, we can see how it hangs against some PREMIUM expensive devices as a pocket computer!

Yeah... Samsung Unpacked (revealing the Galaxy S26) was a MASSIVE flop. Mostly just AI slop with ONE new hardware feature.

Is there any reason to shop these "new" phones?

For those who care about properly crediting companies for innovative features, it's always irritating when influencers flip out about a "new" feature on an iPhone which Androids have had for years prior.
Likewise, we should be similarly critical when influencers hype a feature on a bigger brand like Samsung, which a smaller brand pioneered.
Horizon lock IS a really cool feature (and it was a really cool feature FIVE years ago on a Vivo)!

Getting a feeling that a bunch of tech influencers are about to RADICALLY shift their "earnest opinions" about using a phone style chip to power a full desktop OS experience, and any compromises in that performance will be totally fine. Just something in the air right now...

Seems like tech publications are SUPER anxious about criticizing big brands or AI, but now thanks to that complacency, their monetization is falling off a cliff while AI steals all their traffic. Well played techies! Well played!
