Yeah... Samsung Unpacked (revealing the Galaxy S26) was a MASSIVE flop. Mostly just AI slop with ONE new hardware feature.

Is there any reason to shop these "new" phones?

Samsung Unpacked 2026 was a MASSIVE FLOP (Except for ONE Neat Feature on the Galaxy S26 Ultra)

@SomeGadgetGuy It seems like everything hinges more or less on the privacy screen thing b/c even new camera features were pretty lean. I have a privacy screen protector on my S25U, so the only thing I wonder about at all is what is a "unexpected notification"? That is, how will the system know to darken them? That question was the only thing I wrote in my notes on that whole feature segment. The answer won't make me buy one, though. 🙃

@jpwhiteside There are SO MANY things I wish Samsung would bring to their phones, bigger batteries, better camera sensors, replace features like BT in the SPen and memory card support.

But nope. We get a new expensive screen tech (that scales down to 720p in privacy mode), and roughly the same phone we've had for about five years now.

There's still PLENTY we could be doing to innovate, but Samsung REALLY wants to copy the Apple executives who are actively chilling progress on iphones.

@SomeGadgetGuy @jpwhiteside Letting Pixel beat them to the Qi magnets seems like a big L.
@slab_bulkhead @SomeGadgetGuy I'm honestly not sure what Samsung could have done to get me to upgrade my S25U right now, but the privacy screen and wider apertures on a couple of the rear cameras isnt' enough. I'd like to see them improve upon the square selfie camera Apple brought to the iPhone. I'd like some improvements w/ the pen, maybe some tap features like the Apple pencil. I'd love to see a camera kit like what some of the Chinese OEMs make. Make Samsung Notes compete better w/Plaud...

It's totally ok for us to look at the smartphone as a mature product and know it's not worth flipping a phone every year or every other.
I think it's also really clear that Samsung just isn't trying to push the envelope on what a phone could do. It's a cynical business move to keep consumers in a holding pattern.
@SomeGadgetGuy yeah, it's gonna take something special to leave my S24U. It's certainly not perfect but I'm going to need a big camera/battery/charging speed upgrade in order to justify a move
@Ahslan you could literally balance the price of a battery replacement against buying a whole new phone LOL.
The experiences should be similar.
@SomeGadgetGuy I find it hilarious how the fanbois are out defending the screen like it's the greatest thing ever and how did we live without it. Or headlines about the "new design"! OMG it was new with what ... the S21?
@WalkingBlackBear Gotta keep working the algorithms! Monetizing traffic by confirming audience bias is the only winning move I guess.
That and Samsung PR is notoriously punitive...
