Server was down for a bit -- apologies to the Public Garden members
#ChatGPT seems to be truly disruptive technology. There are many uncertainties of where this will head. Unfiltered discussion on the fediverse feels extremely important.

I created this fediverse group, @gpt , for that purpose!

I hope we can have some very human discussions through this channel.

Many thanks to @mpuckett for the fantastic https://chirp.social platform.
chirp.social: Groups for the Fediverse

Create groups for Mastodon and other ActivityPub-enabled apps.

Timeline of a new Mastodon user:

Day 1: this sucks servers are confusing and why is my feed empty

Day 2: why is there no quote tweet this is dumb

Day 3: mastodon better make some changes if it wants to compete with tw_tter

Day 7: hm, people are really nice here

Day 10: loving the no ads and real conversations

Day 15: THE WORKERS MUST SEIZE THE MEANS OF PRODUCTION AND EXECUTE CAPITALISTS

#TwitterMigration

A reminder for anyone new to mastodon who might not be happy with some of the racist and bad actors out there on other servers... Just import the fediblock list to your personal blocks and you will be safe from the vast majority of bad actors.

I took all the domains from https://fediblock.neocities.org/ block list and put it in a csv file that can be imported so you can block all hateful instances. Download it [here](https://anonfiles.com/0088mcF8y8/blocked_domains_csv) ### How to import - go to settings - click on import & export - click on import - under import select domain blocking list - then select the csv file you downloaded - click upload **Boom** a friendly mastodon & fediverse experience :ablobsmilehappy:

Qoto Mastodon
Can the API for #chatGPT be used to automate #moderation on Mastodon, Pleroma and other federated servers?

Would love some details in the comments!

Please reboost if you can to get a good sample of participants :)
Yes, this is possible.

Welcome to my #rebased account.

This is the first time Iโ€™m using โ€œrebasedโ€, it is a fork of #Pleroma. I am liking the UI because of the familiarity and simple approach. This is good for those who are migrating from Twitter, and I will recommend this (specifically Public Garden instance, of course) to my network.

I also love the onboarding process, the most important part lacking in other #Fediverse platforms. It explained what the Fediverse is, and what the Federated Timeline is. I havenโ€™t encountered though an explanation on how to add users from other servers (or I might have missed it because Iโ€™m not new to the Fediverse).

Oh, and recommended users during the onboarding process is one useful plus. (I think Misskey and forks, as well as, Friendica and Hubzilla, have an upfront recommended users after signing up; I canโ€™t quite rememberโ€ฆ the problem with being familiar with the entire process, you start to ignore things.)

One more thing. The Public.Garden instance allows up to 5,000 characters, just like the C.IM (Mastodon) instance; while the hashi.icu (Misskey) instance have a whopping 300,000-character limit. (I have an account in C.IM and hashi.icu.)

500-character limit (most common), or anything less than 5,000 characters, is not enough in the Fediverse network where people regularly engage in fruitful discussions and Q&A. I guess that is whatโ€™s called #macroblogging.

Public Garden

@micahflee so you're saying we'll catch up in 3-4 months then
I don't know who needs to hear this, but an economy controlled by a handful of oligarchs isn't a "free market."

Having now been on #Mastodon for 1 month, a few observations:

- Mastodon makes me realize how much the #Twitter algorithm maximized user outrage to boost engagement for profit. Gross. Here, my feed is interesting & supportive.

- There's a culture of kindness - at least so far. It's extremely appealing & should be normalized on & offline.

- Beyond reactions to toots, people share songs, poetry & ask great questions. I can't remember the last time I found social media to be fun.

NOTE: If anyone wants to be added to this list just let me know.

Ok so this seems to be most of the people who publicly stated they had interest in developing the "United Federation of Instances". All of you should have gotten the first draft and opinions were heard and discussed.

Today I will be moving the first draft over to git (either git.qoto.org or gitlab.com). From there I will encourage each of you to provide suggestions as to edits there, and raise discussions in issues. This way we will be public and have an open transparent forum that keeps the changes on record.

While public feedback is being debated on the proposal I will begin a rough draft on the complete by laws (which will try to represent the broader points in the proposal document). That too will be on gitlab and open to discussion

From there as the movement grows we can begin discussing launching it.

I suggest all communication on the fediverse about this use the #UFI hashtag so it is easily searchable.

Since this is a public post I will now share the link to the early draft here, please keep in mind everything here is open for discussion so if anyone doesnt like the current direction, please speak up, we want you to be heard.
