We just published results of big
BikeWalkKC data collection/analysis project of the Gillham Road cycletrack.

tl;dr - people LOVE it, are using it to replace car trips, & want to see a lot more all over KC. #VisionZeroKC #VisionZero #CompleteStreets

“Nobody uses the bike lanes in Kansas City!”  A new Gillham Road report says otherwise.

Evidence-based analysis for Gillham Road shows bike lanes are well-used and encourage people to bike more than before. People love it and want to see more protected places to bike, walk, and roll.

Buses are ignored as a climate solution because most of the people talking about climate have no lived experience with buses. So instead they propose personally relevant solutions like electrifying privately owned cars and “green” buildings located far from bus routes.

Beautiful night for a bike ride #KC

Had a particularly eventful ride across the heart of Downtown KCMO this week that reinforced the need for a safe and protected east-west bikeway. I'm safe, and so is the family of five who were biking to school together.

The 11th/12th Street pair is on the city's bike plan, and there was a planning project in 2021 to design both a bikeway and a transit lane, but there has been no movement to construct the safety improvements.

Less parking = more homes.

"parking mandates—local rules that ban new homes & businesses unless they have a pre-determined number of off-street parking spaces—are a binding constraint on housing construction."

Parking Reform Legalized Most of the New Homes in Buffalo and Seattle

Studies from two very different cities showed the same result.

Not gonna lie the e-bike was groaning under the weight of approximately 5,000 salsa jars.♻️🚲. #eBikes

Getting ready for a little trip tomorrow. Last flight out of the old KCI terminal and first flight into the new one.

Six hour layover in Chicago, so looking for 4am watering hole suggestions!

Update on Truman Road Protected Bike Lanes (February 1st City Council Hearing)

Proposed compromise would convert one-way protected bike lanes to a two-way cycletrack with more permanent car parking, with final decision delayed at least two weeks to work out the details.
