The deadline is approaching for the Spring admissions round for the Cognitive Neuroscience PhD program at SISSA! the deadline is on March 20 at 1pm CET.
The Cognitive Neuroscience group (https://phdcns.sissa.it/) hosts 7 research labs (including our incoming faculty member @ambrafer !) that study the neuronal bases of time and magnitude processing, neuronal foundations of perceptual experience and learning in various sensory modalities, motivation and intelligence, language, and neural computation. Our research is highly interdisciplinary; our approaches include behavioral, psychophysics, and neurophysiological experiments with humans and animals, as well as computational, statistical and mathematical models. Students from a broad range of backgrounds (physics, maths, medicine, psychology, biology) are encouraged to apply.

Junior Scientist Workshop on Theoretical Neuroscience at #HHMIJanelia
November 17 - 22, 2024
Attendees will give 20-minute research talks on their work, as well as in-depth 45-minute tutorials on theoretical techniques relevant to their research. Tutorials will be presented white board style to encourage uninhibited and detailed technical discussion, a deeper understanding of the diverse techniques used in modern theoretical neuroscience, and hopefully a stronger
The Neuroscience department at SISSA is hiring! We are looking for candidates for multiple assistant professor (tenure track) openings across a broad spectrum of topics in neuroscience (molecular, cellular, circuit, systems, cognitive and computational). SISSA is an international school in Trieste, Italy, promoting basic and applied research in Neuroscience, Mathematics and Physics and dedicated to the training of PhD students.

Research groups and graduate programsNeuroscience research at SISSA includes cognitive neuroscience, computational and theoretical neuroscience, systems neuroscience, molecular and cellular research as well as genomics and genetics. The Neuroscience department is organized around three graduate programs. Each research group/lab is affiliated to one or more graduate programs. PhD programs are distinct but have significant overlap in scope, reflecting the interdisciplinary nature of our research.More information on the programs can be found on their respective webpages:Cognitive NeuroscienceNeurobiologyFunctional and Structural GenomicsThe department is currently looking to hire new faculty in any of the programs! See our call for expressions of interest for more details.Shared facilitiesThe department hosts a number of shared facilities, These include cell culture rooms, viral vector facilities, confocal microscopes, molecular and biochemical facilities, a mechatronics workshop, and human cognition labs with EEG, TMS, and eye tracking systems. More details on our internal experimental facilities can be found at Lab Facilities (Instruments booking - Tech Support). Access to MRI scanning is guaranteed through agreements with national and international scanning facilities. Computing resources are provided internally thanks to the Ulisse HPC platform and externally through agreements with CINECA.TeachingDetails on the teaching offer can be found on the individual programs' pages, linked above. To facilitate cross-program collaboration and to encourage students to explore a broad range of subjects, we also maintain a shared list of syllabi for all courses offered, and a joint course calendar, shown below. All students are encouraged to subscribe to the calendar by clicking the "+" button on the bottom right corner of the panel.Courses CalendarLegend:● Cognitive Neuroscience● Neurobiology● Functional and Structural Genomics● Technical staffPeople and contactsBelow are the names of those who hold the key institutional roles within the department. A beautiful piece featuring the unconventional "Rethinking Naturalistic Behavior" workshop we organised in the Dolomites with the @nencki. It was an almost magical event: living four days in a convent in the middle of the mountains with all speakers and attendants, debating the pros and cons of the recent trend pushing for naturalistic #neuroscience.
Stay tuned for the conclusions of the workshop, we plan to post our write up soon!
Thanks @thetransmitter for giving it space!
There is a new Finnish Doctoral Program in AI. Research topics include Bayesian inference, modeling and workflows as part of fundamental AI. There is a big joint call, where you can choose the supervisor you want to work with. I'm also one of the supervisors. Come work with me or share the news! The first call deadline is April 2, and the second call deadline in fall 2024. See how to apply at https://fcai.fi/doctoral-program, and more about my research at https://users.aalto.fi/~ave/publications.html
Up to 6 PhD positions in Cognitive Neuroscience are available at SISSA, Trieste, starting October 2024.

Looking for paper suggestions!
I'm teaching a class in Neuroecology for first year PhD students and part of it is a journal club.
I'm looking for additional, pure behavior papers that study "natural" / ecological behaviors, if possible not in mice.
And also for rather short papers that perform any form of brain recordings during natural /ecological behaviors (plus points if not in mice).
Any suggestions?
