My blog post describing how we cut #Firefox out-of-memory crashes by more than 70% with one weird trick is out: https://hacks.mozilla.org/2022/11/improving-firefox-stability-with-this-one-weird-trick/

The title is not click-bait, I swear, it *is* one weird trick.

Improving Firefox stability with this one weird trick – Mozilla Hacks - the Web developer blog

Poorly behaving web pages and apps are no longer capable of crashing the browser by exhausting memory, thanks to a simple trick.

I'm gonna tell your grand-kids this is Elon Musk.
Kind of wild how the primary branch of every git repo became "main" over the course of a year and how few things broke as a result.
One nice thing about the bird site is all the sausage making that is moderation was hidden. Checked out the fediblock hash tag and man, lots of, I don't know who CISA is but let's block them.
@chiefgyk3d @tinker I've made the comparison to FEMA, since it is also a DHS agency and is neither LE nor IC. CISA is comparable to FEMA for cyber.
What @tinker said:
> If blocking CISA, consider blocking FEMA, the Department of Transportation, and The Library of Congress as well.
@SwiftOnSecurity
This is a truth that I learned a few years ago on the other site.
Here is my take, having run an extremely large social media account:
Being blocked by someone who doesn't like you is a gift in time. In the moment it seems a great insult, a loss, an unresolved human connection you'll never understand why was cut. And you'll let that eat at you for a bit. Sometimes you should reflect on what lead to that negative result.
But again it was a gift. Someone who reacts negatively to your posture on life will henceforth have no further prompts to critique you. To be reminded of your existence and perhaps go into an extended spiel of every reason for for their disdain to all their followers.
The dangerous people don't block you, they revel in surprise of rehashed contempt.
There are people who block me I will never understand and am reminded of on a regular basis trying to view their work. But you come to live with that. It's better to be apart than spark a flame amongst vapors.

@tes you can do into your profile settings and there is an "import/export" section that will let you download your account information.

The effective way, though, is to perform an account migration. You can find instructions on the docs.joinmastodon.org website.

Note that CISA is isn't a law enforcement agency and has a mission for improving security of critical infrastructure. The reason people are blocking is because it's being interpreted as tacit support for all the bad things the US government does.

There are some who misunderstand laws, like the 1st amendment, freedom of information act, and so on, as a reason to pile on, but those aren't legitimate arguments.

I do understand you not wanting to harm others. We share that. If you were to move to another instance, people seem to be liking Hachyderm.io. If you're looking or something that would take a stance against what we're doing, I likely recommend octodon.social. Mastodon.social or Mastodon.online area also good options when they reopen registrations.

I’ve said it once, and I’ll say it a thousand times: Encouraging kids to be who they are is suicide prevention.
