The #Gates #Foundation has been reducing their #US grants from a high of 30% of their budget to 10% in 2017 (the 2018 numbers are not public yet). Even in absolute terms, the US grants total have been decreasing for the past 3 years while the overall budget increased.
CoolBeans now includes Maven remote search (which should save you some GB of disk space), native OS notifications (on Windows, macOS and Linux) as well as the C/C++ modules. https://coolbeans.xyz/ #CoolBeansIDE #NetBeans #Java #PHP #CPP

Oh, this is cute. My little #neural #network is most confused about Snowdrop versus (white) Crocus flowers. #MachineLearning
Interesting. So a .com domain I was about to buy was automatically snatched and is parked now. I wonder which reseller leaked this info or if some DNS query leaked this purchase intent. #wild #west

I remember when I was doing #iOS apps that some contractors didn't even have *any* Apple hardware to test their apps on.

As I'm starting the #fastai course it seems the situation is somewhat similar: #MachineLearning gear is expensive, renting #cloud #gpu is not cheap either.

There are some one-time-only free credits from #Google and #AWS but not for everybody (or it might have expired).

Speaking of modern requirements: #MachineLearning course expects desktop-class nVidia GPU with 4GB of VRAM.

I first trained #neural #networks on single core CPUs with < 1GB RAM. I also trained NNs on a phone!

Not that I mind building another machine, but... no need to summon Skynet in class, just tell me the basics :-)

Bought another 32MB of #EDO RAM which means that, if it works, I will have 48MB of RAM. Enough to run #OpenBSD or #NetBSD. And even X!

I could run an old Slackware with X on 16MB of RAM; not sure why modern OSes need so much RAM...

I really enjoyed the "Basic Modeling for Discrete Optimization" course by Prof. Peter James Stuckey and Prof. Jimmy Ho Man Lee https://www.coursera.org/learn/basic-modeling #minizinc
