First and foremost, I am a husband and the father of two wonderful little girls. Professionally I'm the IT Manager for a local nonprofit.
I love to talk about Apple, I love Star Trek, Star Wars & most things comic books.

I'll be posting about #Apple #InterestingTechnology #StarTrek #StarWars #Marvel #DisneyWorld and, sometimes, #DC. I won't be posting about politics, but at times I might boost others that do.

How nice of them to post mugshots right away

Colored droplets in corn syrup seemingly blended together can be returned to their original state by reversing the direction of mixing, a form of laminar flow called "Stokes flow".

I’ve written an open letter asking organisations that engage online with the blind community to come to Mastodon in light of the significant #accessibility regressions at Twitter.
If you agree, please sign it and share it as widely as you can. This is one occasion where if we can show how many of us care about this issue, it will make it clear that it’s worth companies putting in the effort to be here.
I would also be very grateful for the support of our sighted friends.
Thank you.

Professor Kathy Gill... attempted to share that story on Twitter... She received a message saying “Tweet not sent”... she “appealed” to Twitter, noting that it was just a link to the story... [and] her account was suspended permanently.

Twitter Suspends User For Sharing Washington Post Story About Pentagon Docs Leaker

You know the drill by now. In October of 2020, the NY Post ran a story about the contents of a laptop hard drive that Hunter Biden apparently left at a computer repair store. There were questions a…

Gentle reminder: there are many blind and partially sighted users on the fediverse, and alt text is important for accessibility. It's becoming more and more commonplace that people won't boost toots with media that's either undescribed or lacking in a call for help with the alt text.

I have a guide here on how to write alt text, a bot you can follow if you keep forgetting, and options for asking for help with alt text:

Please, alt-text your media.

We have a lot of blind and partially sighted users on the fediverse. Accessibility is important here, and as such, it's good form to include image descriptions (alt text) when we add media to our posts. When someone uses a screenreader to read the timeline, and the screenreader comes to an image with no alt text, it just says 'image' (as far as I know). That's boring, unhelpful, and provides no clue as to what the image actually *is*. This differs slightly depending on how you're using (cont)

@gruber Windows 11 on Parallels on Apple Silicon isn’t just good, I find it much snappier, smoother, power-efficient, and generally robust than Parallels on Intel Silicon Macs ever was. Even when running ancient x86 software, like an old version of QuickBooks I’m embarrassed to say I still use. Intellectually, I understand the appeal of removing virtualization from the picture, but getting quick access to Windows apps while I’m still in MacOS is so nice I’m already very happy.

NetNewsWire 6.1.2 for Mac and iOS are out!

These releases remove Twitter integration, since Twitter suspended NetNewsWire for bullshit reasons and is a fucking stupid place.

NetNewsWire - NetNewsWire 6.1.2 for Mac and iOS

NetNewsWire 6.1.2 for Mac is out — you can do a check for updates or download it directly. NetNewsWire 6.1.2 for iOS is available via the App Store, though it may take a few hours to propagate. If you don’t see it yet, you’ll see it soon. Both of these releases remove Twitter integration, since Twitter has suspended NetNewsWire. Also, the iOS app icon now gets the same cool golden wings that the Mac app has.

Hey #MastoAdmins, I’ve had this same error show up in my dead jobs for a while and I just can’t figure out why it’s happening:

ActiveRecord::StatementInvalid: PG::UndefinedFile: ERROR: could not load library "/usr/lib/postgresql/15/lib/llvmjit.so": libz3.so.4: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory

The library file is indeed there and everything seems in order. Any suggestions?

#MastoAdmin

After messing around with #LLM a bit, here's a few thoughts.

* Its best use is to take care of boilerplate
* It's super overhyped
* Calling it #AI is part of said hype
* The hype is going to put it in so many places that it doesn't belong, and this WILL end up hurting people and society
* Never, EVER, ask it for anything that you can't verify the accuracy of yourself
* I don't think this method will lead to true AI
* It's a copyright nightmare
* It is, nevertheless, a very cool technology
