What kind of Wagenmaterial can one expect? I’m bound to take that train from Berlin to Paris tomorrow - with family. To be honest I’m dreading a little bit what to expect…still used to Finnish night trains from the last family night train trip ;).

@sebwilken Mein Eindruck ist gemischt. Bin letztes Jahr mit ES von Berlin nach Antwerpen gefahren und teilte mein Liegewagenabteil mit einem Rentnerehepaar aus Dresden und einem 85-jährigen Mann aus UK.
Aber ja, sonst sehe ich auch hauptsächlich Jüngere oder auch Familien mit kleineren Kindern.
Nachtzüge sind glaube ich den meisten viel zu teuer, zumal sich der Komfort angesichts des meist sehr alten Wagenmaterials in Grenzen hält (außer in Suomi natürlich ;)).

@jon Always wondered how non-German speakers perceive the very german word Wagenstandsanzeiger. Sounds like something that could end up in the Oxford dictionary such as Kindergarten or Hinterland, as there is no equivalent in English. Or is there 🤭?

Manic day here, so no time for a full analysis of the European Sleeper to run Paris-Berlin night trains from Spring 2026, so this quick thread will have to do

Important point: I think the chances this happens are GOOD, upwards of 80%

Chances it can’t launch in spring and start is delayed is higher than it not happening at all

@sebwilken @zugpost Just an update on my night train experience from Turku to Rovaniemi. It was perfect so far, however in Kemi the train ended unexpectedly due to „power problems“. I guess something with the line to Rovaniemi, as the train still had power.
Where the German-DB-trained mind entered catastrophy-mode, everything went perfectly smooth for there on. 5 coaches were provided within like 15 min. Now on our way to Rovaniemi with a nice view in 1st row!

Every time again the best thing about riding a #nighttrain : Waking up in another country, a different landscape on view, enjoying breakfast during quiet and smooth remaining hours until arriving at the destination.
