Miramichi River Valley Review
Welcome to Miramichi River Valley

January 1, 2023 is the start of a New Year. It is also the establishment day for the rural community of Miramichi River Valley. From the About page on the new website, “Established on January 1, 2023, the Rural Community of Miramichi River Valley includes the former Village of Blackville and the Local Service Districts of Blackville, Renous-Quarryville, North Esk, South Esk, Derby and Sunny Corner. It is governed by an elected council made up of a mayor and six councillors.”

Miramichi River Valley Review

I'm still on Twitter because it's where a lot of Black people I follow are and many have no plans to leave because alternatives all seem semi-hostile as well.

And whenever Black people raise this point on Mastodon, about its pervasive whiteness, there's always at least one person oozing white condescension at them about it, making their point for them.

White people need to learn to shut the fuck up and listen.

This is an exciting time for the fedi, man.

Yes, some are stuck in the past and will cling to their bigotry to retain whatever fictional ownership they think they have.

But the rest of us are talking. We're figuring it out. We're learning how to make our networks and community better in real-time.

Yeah, it's messy, but real progress often is.

In the last couple of weeks, I've had more meaningful conversations about the future of the fediverse as the defacto network for
anyone than I have in the previous years I've been in the fedi combined.

This is the fun part—this is where we create.

Accessiblity on social media is much more than simply alt text for images. It's placing hashtags at the end. It's making sure your videos have captions. It's about thinking about visual contrast.

Here is an article that gives more details. https://publish.illinois.edu/accessibility-training/2019/11/05/best-practices-for-social-media-accessibility/

I can’t find the original toot that mentioned this, but here’s a reminder: please put all hashtags at the end instead of interspersing them in the body of your message. When alt readers process the sequence of “hashtag topic” it’s a mashup that creates a barrier to communication.

what a good piece from Dana O'Driscoll, blogger at Druid's Garden and Archdruid at AODA

https://thedruidsgarden.com/2022/12/04/beyond-tolerance-building-space-for-diversity-understanding-and-plurality/

From the article: As a druid, I recognize that there is much value in looking to nature for guidance on how to live, and the message from the ecosystem is clear, diversity is beautiful and necessary for life to function. We can apply these same lessons in nature to human diversity and religious diversity.

@dughlas A great topic! Thanks!

I actually interviewed one of the people behind the NB museum (Todd Caissie) back in 2020 on my show.
