Transportation resilience expert. Studying, teaching, learning, tooting about πŸšΆβ€β™€οΈπŸš² 🚌 & πŸ›£οΈ, with occasional outbursts about dogs, kids, & gardening. Searchable on tootfinder. Opinions my own.

Not anti-car, just anti-carbrain. A person, not a data point.

3/ The timing was inadvertantly prescient: we submitted our final report the same day #HurricaneHelene was pummelling western #NorthCarolina. The lessons we learned about the role of adaptable streets in building local resilience have never been more important to transportation planning.
2/ Since March 4, 2020 I've been collecting and analyzing data about how cities around the world responding to the changing demand for street space brought on by the #COVID19 pandemic. This piece is from was the first major study of #COVIDstreets in my home state.
I've got a quick favour to ask. If you're reading this post on Mastodon (or the Fediverse), please click boost.

The attention to detail here is πŸ‘¨β€πŸ³πŸ’‹

I got my gumption up to speak with an as-yet-unknown human on the actual phone but we got disconnected before solving all our problems and it'll be days before I can try again

Pulled some better pics of the #TruckBloat that's been clogging up sidewalks in #ChapelHillNC lately. I can't make out plates, sadly, but I got a logo and a company name. Seemingly ungoogleable though!

Anyone recognize it?

See, you really do need a truck this big in order to make sure you block the entire sidewalk. A 1990s Tacoma would have left room for someone to go around and we can't have that.

The fact that there is no decibel limit to home backup generators in urban areas is a mystery

We are surrounded on all sides by normally lovely people, but when the power goes out, as it has today, every one of them cranks up a fossil gas generator and just carries on like normal.

It's like living in a truck stop in the 1980s.

oh ha it's #NationalPetDay

I'll try to celebrate once I finish washing the sofa cushions and cleaning out the bathtub. again.
