The #Trump admin in recent weeks has released a series of reports intended to undermine the conclusion reached by intelligence agencies before Trump’s first term that #Russia had favored his candidacy in 2016 & sought to improve his chances of winning.

That assessment, an unclassified version of which was made public in Jan 2017, has long infuriated Trump.

“Steam Deck has only sold 5 million units…”

Yeah, no shit. It was only sold through Steam. Never hit Amazon new, never showed up at Best Buy.

Valve didn’t market it. At least, not really.

And it’s not just competing with the Ally, Legion Go, and Claw—it’s competing with every laptop and desktop on Earth.

But here’s the part people miss: Steam Deck sales don’t matter. This isn’t a console. It’s a form factor. Whether it sells 5 million or 50 million doesn’t change how many PC games get made.

What matters is that PC games are now portable. That’s the shift. That’s the win.

Anyone know of any building toys with a bit of a technical edge?

I used to enjoy LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Meccano etc. and did some crazy shit with them, but everything these days seems to be kits with very narrow build options. Everyone seems to want to build *something* predefined instead of designing shit themselves.

I just fancy some designing and building without getting all my actual tools out.

Me, sobbing: You can't just keep calling everything malicious.

My EDR, pointing at svchost dot exe: Malware.

If any Mastodon instances are having trouble with their costs growing out of control, ping me and see if I can help lower your bill.

Apparently a recently closed instance was paying $300/month for hosting which is insane to read considering how small of an instance it was. When we had 40k monthly users I was paying about $120/month so an instance with less than 400 total users (not MAU) should be super cheap to run even with a few TB of storage and bandwidth.

It hurts my heart to read instances closing down over costs and finding out they’re paying more than instances 10x their size. 😢

Reason: Costs! https://vmst.io/@User47/114508192446827453 Running a Mastodon server isn’t free & it’s often thankless. But it is essential. If you value independent, community-run spaces, now’s the time to chip in to your favorite server/instances Your server admins can’t keep the lights on with vibes alone. Even on Pixels, /e/OS is extremely far behind on providing the current High and Critical severity privacy and security patches due to being so far behind on OS updates. They mislead users by setting a fake security patch level and changing the UI to mask what's happening.
Murena is a for-profit company and /e/OS is very clearly built and managed for the benefit of Murena. Despite this, /e/OS receives a huge amount of EU government funding. If you're an EU taxpayer, your money is being used to build this extraordinarily insecure and non-private OS.

Apple and Google both provide support for offline speech-to-text using local models. Users can configure it to be fully offline.

The Murena Voice to Text service in /e/OS sends the user's audio to OpenAI which is hidden away in their terms of service:

Voice to Text feature using Open AI

As I was reading the Murena’s terms of use I discovered that the voice to text feature introduced with e/OS/ 3.0 is using the Open AI API. That means our voice is sent to Open AI so they can translate it to text. Murena is anonymising the data but I think it is still someting we should know. We can give sensitive informations in those messages. And we are probably participating in the training of Open AI LLM models. Open IA is a big tech company. It is not a transparent company, their models a...

#Religion…asks us to deliberately deceive ourselves – to replace #reason with its opposite, faith. When men operate on faith, they can no longer be reasoned with, which makes them more dangerous than any sane man, good or evil.
