LLMs do not "democratize programming". A 4-year-old can learn to program. LLMs throw up stupid barriers by convincing you that you can't learn to program and you have to rely on whatever shit the bobot spits out. Every asshole that says that AI "democratizes" fucking anything is trying to scam you.

My #Wikipedia request for comment just closed, finally banning #AI content in articles! "The use of LLMs to generate or rewrite article content is prohibited"

Kudos to all who participated in writing the guideline (especially Kowal2701) and the whole WikiProject AI Cleanup team, this was very much a group effort!

hey uhhh. I got fired yesterday. if anyone has rust positions in the Netherlands let me know!

update: for context, I'm a compiler witch and a member of the Rust compiler team. I've worked on a bunch of cool stuff in rustc, including "the never type", "tail calls", and "trait upcasting". See my github (I also accept sponsorships if you feel like it :D). Didn't expect this post to blow up way past my circle of friends

something I've been thinking about is how, when I teach a class, I tell the TAs to never, ever touch the keyboard when they're helping a student with an assignment. not even once! because as soon as someone else is driving, it becomes real easy for the student to stop thinking and just let things happen.

kind of like what happens when we use a coding assistant.

This petition wants contributing to Free Software to be legally and officially recognized as volunteering in Germany on the same level as youth work or ambulance service:

https://www.openpetition.de/petition/online/recognition-of-work-on-open-source-as-volunteering-in-germany#petition-main

This would bring fiscal and funding advantages for FLOSS organizations and the volunteers themselves.

If you are a German citizen, please sign the petition and let's get our volunteers the recognition they deserve!

@b0rk Last time I did webdev seriously, it was cross-domain cookie security for SSO use cases. It was in flux and the specs kept changing. Probably it's better and stable now.
@VEXED Looks fine, although I see some ways it can be improved: "Л" and "П" look too close to each other to my taste (probably due to the "rounded"/"flanged" top-left corner); serif for "ь" looks weird but still readable (it's usually pointing either horizontally (most often) or diagonally downwards).
With the Consent-O-Matic extension installed, I find it much more pleasant to browse the web. It automatically declines the cookie requests that most websites now show.
