So you're just getting started in Mastodon huh?

Here's a neat thing. On the web interface you can search for a Hashtag.

Same as you can on Twitter.

Something like #Ukraine, for example

But on the search results, see that little user icon on the right? Click it and you'll follow it as if it's a user!

New posts with that tag will arrive in your home page, even if you don't follow the author yet

UPDATE: As of this morning there are now more than 7 million Mastodon users, most from the #TwitterMigration.

In fact, 100,000 new accounts have been created since last night.

Since last night's spike 8,000-12,000 new accounts are being created every hour.

Yesterday, I estimated that Mastodon would have 8 million users by the end of the week. That might happen a lot sooner if this trend continues.
Sapling SCM | Sapling

Sapling is a source control system developed and used at Meta that places special emphasis on usability and scalability. Git and Mercurial users will find many of the basic concepts familiar, and that workflows like understanding your repository, working with stacks of commits, and recovering from mistakes, are substantially easier.

I think it's glorious that there's now a Mastodon server operated by people who used to work for Twitter (macaw.social). I could have never imagined it when I started in 2016.

Was anyone realistically thinking about creating a #dotnet implementation of #mastadon ?

I sorta started on it, but wasn't going to continue if there's a #Microsoft led effort.

If there's no existing project, I'll try to gather some collaborators and continue.

Who's interested in trying to get a #dotnet7 version going?

If you make a README.me for your GitHub profile, you can’t use it yet as #verification here because Github removes the REL=ME attributes. However, if you edit your actual profile on GitHub, and put your #Mastodon site as your homepage (that’s the one with the chain link) it will use REL=ME for that link, which means you can verify your GitHub. See my about profile for all three of my verified links!
Lots of folks asking me “can’t the admin see your DMs on Mastodon?” Yes. Use this site like every single thing you do or say is public, which isn’t much more different than how you should use other non encrypted platforms where engineers/admin employees working on the platform can see your personal messages. Treat all communication here like it’s on a public forum, then take it to encrypted comms for private conversations.

@shanselman Would microsoft set up it's own mastodon instance for official MS accounts? And if so, would you move there or stay on your current instance?
Woah - German government has got its own Mastodon instance and most of the ministries and many agencies already have accounts.
Verification problem at least partially solved - just need to check the domain is right!
I've also seen newspapers like theatlantic.com set up instances themselves. Looks like verification will be worked out sooner or later.
