Hi! I'm James 👋. I do marketing automation at Google
@carnage4life so in my last role in Big Tech, we called ARR "Annual Run Rate" for a new product and it was projected annual revenue once the product fully launched. So if you had a $600M ARR, you were targeting $50M monthly once fully launched. Kinda similar but my impression from what you said was referring to existing revenue not projected.
@taylorlorenz who misspells avocado after 5 years?
@briankrebs @trbarrettjr Big surprise - outsource this to a for-profit entity and they try to maximize their profit. Great reporting that draws attention to an embarrassing issue for the US
@slightlyoff their NYC store is a lot of fun to visit too! Very old school tech store with conveyor belts.
@vambenepe so I'm on mastodon.world and a search of #tennis gets me posts from 30 minutes ago. Does the hashtag matter here?
@carnage4life I actually think an interesting flip on the Amazon example which is very similar to Disney is F1TV. I paid $2.5K for a premium race ticket last year and I got F1TV for the full season for free. On top of that I got a lot of free gifts. Feels like you could see a world where a family pass of premium tickets to a Disney Park gets you a free year of Disney+
@carnage4life I think the thing missing in the Amazon Prime comparison is that Prime grants a lot of benefits to the subscription (shipping and Prime Video for instance) which in turn leads to higher same store revenue. Disney+ doesn't grant you any benefits on a Disney Cruise or Disney Park visit AFAIK

Your reminder

In 2016 Russia financed a series of ads along with an army of upvote bots. The intent was to divide america further from all angles

The senate intelligence committee released the following ads from Russia linked actors

These are from accounts with names like Blacktivists, Back the Badge, Secure Borders, Army of Jesus and so on. Every division covered

We’re heading into 2024. If you see a political ad trying to provoke you: mistrust it.

@carnage4life Just a small correction - she was the regional manager, not the store manager. The article says she claims she wasn't at that store on the day of the incident, but I don't know the full backstory.

The real lesson to me is that the two Black guys gave in too easily - they only got $400k in donations to a charity and should have held out for more.

@briankrebs I have such a hard time with Wired I resigned to using my Google account to log in and see subscription content. I think I paid $25 for the year and so I don't think it's worth canceling but if they raise the price I will.
