Worried about #biodiversity loss? Focus on #food (#production and #consumption).

Worried about #freshwater supply and quality? Focus on food.

Worried about #deforestation? Focus on food.

Worried about #overfishing? Focus on food.

Worried about #climate change? Focus on #energy, and food.

This is a more combative headline than I would have used, but if you’re plugging “the role of #beef in a climatarian #diet” at #Climate Week in NYC, you can’t just talk about soil carbon and grassland bird habitat without also acknowledging the broader context of deforestation, methane, and how other foods (which nearly all have lower #GHG emissions per kg of #food) compare.

The Beef Industry Is Trying to Sell Us Bullshit

Like the oil and gas industry once did, Big Meat is slowly ramping up its PR spin on climate.

Nature-based, #regenerative, climate-smart...

It's excellent that governments and businesses are working on balancing human needs (like #food, #energy, and #timber) with #nature and #climate.

Definitions matter, though, and if terms are vague they can open the door to greenwashing.

Crucially, we need to know if the practices given these labels will lead to the outcomes we want!

Happy to be quoted in this article about the promise & perils of #environmental buzzwords: https://www.vox.com/down-to-earth/2022/11/17/23460525/nature-based-solutions-climate-change-cop27

Biden released a “nature-based-solutions” climate roadmap at COP27. What is that?

The environmental movement has a buzzword problem.

Happy to share my most recent paper about course modifications to support student mental health in the physics classroom. I never feel like I do enough, and my collaborators and I wrote this as a reminder that even modest changes are valuable! #ITeachPhysics #MentalHealth
