@andreklein Great write-up! I'm not a developer, but 2025 has been the YotLD for me, too, and my experience has been pretty similar. So even for non-devs out there, the year of the Linux desktop could be close at hand.

Bought a new laptop this year, met the Windows 11 setup screen, and immediately said 'lol no.'

Installed CachyOS, never looked back.

One year in: modern Linux is polished, fast, and weirdly addictive. 🖥️

Dear god why would anyone enable this? You can call me paranoid or whatever, but the fact that this functionality exists even in a disabled state would cause me to run for the hills if I hadn't already.
