If political parties are exempt from spam laws is there anything to stop me from forming a non parliamentary party, the spam politicians party ? The aec site says I just need 1500ish members and some proforma.

I’m pretty confident if our constitution was simple ‘to use the same circumventions politicians use to spam us to spam them back. Constantly’ I could get 1500 members in a weekend. Sure we’ll have a few more ideas but I think this is a much needed part of our electoral system…..

I fucking hate Palmer and harry fong and want to be in their mentions every day till they has no phones.

Folks, when you think about a legit hacker who has testified in front of Congress a lot who is also respected, who do you think has done it the most? Like, in front of the US House or Senate at least several times?

During WWII, the First Peoples could not own a dog, marry, drink or even cross state lines without a government permit.

However, they still volunteered to fight the Nazis.

So... When there's some respect shown for their dead, with a small welcome... Remember... They were ANZACs. Show some fucking respect.

My hero this week is Representative Zooey Zephyr of the Montana House of Representatives, who has had enough of weird laws from scared politicians that want to control all aspects of life, right down to the clothes we wear.

Ms. Zephyr is a transgender person, so she knows what she is talking about. And with her speech, she kills the latest bill that would otherwise have limited people's freedom to dress as they please.

More power to you @ZoAndBehold! 💪🏼

The implementation of anti-Trump price labeling in Denmark is complete. 🙌🏻

I took this picture in a hypermarket today, and in all isles, EU groceries are now labeled with a black ⭐️, which is technically not aimed at the US — but everyone knows why they do it: So you can inspect all the goods which don't have a star and check if they are from tariffland.

I love the American people, but I bought 0 goods from the US today. And it will stay that way, until the fascist has been removed from power.

@randahl why a black star though? anyway i read that the uk is not importing EU cooked meats because of foot and mouth disease or something.https://www.gov.uk/government/news/foot-and-mouth-disease-latest-situation

@rapunzellet on electronic price labels text is black. The star is used to match the 12 stars of our flag. 🇪🇺

I suspect they had to come up with something which was doable with the digital price labels they operate.

It works just fine.

@randahl @rapunzellet I'm wondering if the round with the twelve stars would fit on the electronic label. That is a way more recognizable symbol for the EU, or just the letters EU, or a combination.
@janvlug I agree. But there are some consumers who dislike the EU, so that is probably the reason they do not write “EU” on anything.
@rapunzellet
@randahl @janvlug bizarre, we have the same but different problem now that everything is emblazoned with the union jack - personally i get my veg from an organic veg box and my meat from a local butcher apart from the bacon which is probably danish or dutch and the french and italian cheese.....guess my toothpaste must be american??? maybe
@randahl @janvlug yet all my IT services are usa!
@randahl @janvlug also milk from a local dairy

@rapunzellet @randahl I'm not a big fan of nationalism or continentalism. I want fair products for all.

https://mastodon.social/@janvlug/114290470464934818

@rapunzellet @randahl @janvlug toothpaste (and lots of other stuff) may often have a USA brand but is generally made in the UK or EU - the USA made stuff doesn't always comply to the required safety regulations so can't be sold here..
@vfrmedia @randahl @janvlug probably just the IT then :)
@rapunzellet @randahl @janvlug I think software/services are the only things we get from USA nowadays; probably because everything else is quite rightly subject to more regulations for safety/quality/customer service, which American businesses struggle to accept..
@rapunzellet @randahl That restriction applies to products for personal use. If the UK stopped importing beef and other meat products from Ireland and the Netherlands UK supermarket fridges would be largely empty.

@randahl You’re not alone sir. Vast tranches of the global population are following suit.

It should be noted…The unwritten American law is whatever you do or say, do not mess with US capitalism. That appears to be the very first thing trump did.

‘I feel utter anger’: From Canada to Europe, a movement to boycott US goods is spreading

Tesla sales are falling and apps and online groups are springing up to help consumers choose non-US items

@randahl Good job. Keep at it!
@randahl
I support this fully.
Down with fascism!
@randahl I hope you all continue to do it. Starve the beast that is the US President.
@randahl what the EU needs to do is stop using US big tech : microshit, fecesbook, giggle, bozos's amazan, office, teams, threads, messenger, whatsapp, etc etc - start using opensource or EU stuff or help the fascists and explain it to your kids and grand kids why you helped them
@bonno another classic "all they need to do" followed by something anyone familiar with the actual underlying problems would realize is impossible
@randahl My favorite section of EU grocery stores.
@randahl
As a USian I support you and everyone else doing this 1000%.
SCOTUS may have deemed corporations people but actual people know that corporations are bilionaires, hence not people.
@JGuz there will come a point, where some really powerful people will get really tired of losing money.
@randahl My concern is that the democrats also belief in tariffs and protectionism. Trumpism will be alive and well with or without the Orange King
@Robo105 @randahl everyone uses tariffs. just not on everything everywhere all at once.
@maccruiskeen @randahl True but we have been decades moving to remove tariffs but now we see support for Fortress American which weakens usa and the alliances it has built

@Robo105 @randahl

Tariffs are good in the same way that any tool is good, such as a scalpel.

A scalpel used right can save a life, tariffs used right can balance or even reverse the trend of outsourcing manufacturing costs to countries without worker and environmental protections to save money.

This does not mean that giving a scalpel to a toddler in a crowded room is a good idea and if someone were to do that, it also wouldn't mean that scalpels are universally bad.

@randahl "I love the American people, but I bought 0 goods from the US today."
That's literally the best thing you can possibly do to show you care.

Make this country hurt. It's the only thing it even understands anymore. We need it to be big enough that all the people who aren't paying attention start to notice.

I hope the whole world copies this sort of thing.

@randahl I don't have a problem with Danes, either.

I wouldn't pay $31 a pound for chorizo, either. Not even extra spicy.

@randahl
I couldn't afford a single thing on any of those shelves right now. My plan is to hit the local farmers market on Saturday since they still charge sane prices and I know it's all local produce.
@randahl besides tariffs why would you want to buy meat from USA in Denmark anyway?
@txt_file this is not related to meat in particular. All categories of products are marked now, which makes it easy to avoid Lewis jeans, Nike shoes, Apple phones, etc.
@randahl @txt_file Did you have to commodifiy the corpses of murder victims in your example image then? #vegan https://nationearth.com

@ambiguous_yelp I respect your choice of not eating meat, but your post is not constructive social media behavior.

You are interjecting an issue which is important to you, into a conversation about a completely different topic. If we all did that, Mastodon would be one big pile of whataboutism.

Please find a more helpful way to promote your cause.

@randahl Framing it as a choice rather than a question of rights decentres the victim and is a common justification for all kinds of abuse. Death of another is not ur choice it is fundamentally anti freedom and anti consent to say that killing someone else is ultimately up to the killer. The non-human animal holocaust kills trillions every year for no good reason, there is no greater moral emergency so no I wont ignore speciesism when I see it: ur post justified this abuse intentionally or not
@ambiguous_yelp please talk to animal farmers, political groups and animal rights organizations. Please stop harassing consumers.
You will not change the world this way. Actually the opposite will happen. You hurt the cause you are speaking in favour of. The more extreme you talk the less you reach a wider audience. The less you reach a wider audience the less you will be helpful for animal rights.
@randahl
@txt_file @randahl Lookup the radical flank effect: the opposite is the case, extremists pull the overton window by making moderates look more reasonable. You say it shuts down the conversation I say this is a conversation started by me making that comment. Commodification of abused bodies is wrong when done to humans and when done to non human animals. I'm not going to ignore it when I see it just because you think it hurts the cause. Vegan populations are growing exponentially
@txt_file @randahl As more people wake up to the moral emergency of the mass slaughter of innocent sentient beings you can expect more extremism than someone making an impolite comment. I'm not saying that as an endorsement its a sociological innevitability in times of great injustice people do extreme acts in the real world.
@txt_file @ambiguous_yelp @randahl if there is one single topic where we need not to change the system it’s veganism. Respecting animals as sentient beings, not treating them like products and exploiting them, is the one thing you have to implement individualy.
There’s already an abundance of animal-cruelty-free products. Why don’t you choose this option? Is the system telling you not to and you can’t overcome the system or does it just taste good?
@randahl Initially I was questioning if it was a good place and time of @ambiguous_yelp to bring up the topic of #veganism here. But I had actually exactly the same thought: why is the topic of the stars illustrated with #meat, which stands for the #abuse of #power of humans over animals. Photos of meat in the context of other topics normalize the use of meat. Killing animals is #injustice allowed by the majority of the population. There are similarities with fascism: support from the many.

@randahl @ambiguous_yelp you respect ..is exactly the problem.

Vegans do not depend on onmivors who are graciously giving their consent to others not wanting to exploit other beings

@randahl kk … then example picture is just a bad example 😉😁
@randahl @txt_file Do you have the courage to watch and learn how animals are raped and murdered? If not, respectfully, don't talk about something you refuse to understand.

@randahl

I totally support. . . don't buy US stuff now, not sure if any products from the state of Florida make it to Denmark, I would especially avoid those.

@FallsMom lots of products sold in Denmark used to be from the US. Tesla's, iPhones, Lewis jeans, Nike shoes, Coca-Cola, Budweiser, Cannondale bikes, and on and on.

@randahl is it all supermarkets?

And also: what about Ukrainian goods?

@rasmus91 it is all of Salling Group's 600 stores.

@randahl i thought i recognized the price tags from there.

I hope COOP and rema 1000 etc follows suit

@randahl "And it will stay that way, until the fascist has been removed from power."

Not just removed from power, but in jail for the rest of their short lives. The punishment has to be so severe that no one attempts this bullshit again.

@randahl And I accept that form of love. As an American person, I say that you are doing what we need you to do. Thank you! You earned a star!
@randahl WE All hope for a brighter future

@randahl

Why would you buy food items from a country that does not regulate the amount of feces or chlorine in food?

#tariff or no tariff?

#CRAPitalism indeed, accent on CRAP

@randahl
Our major grocery stores are all highlighting Product Of and Made In Canada, and at least Loblaws brands have started putting a big black "T" on tariff affected goods.
I'd love to see our stores start putting the EU stars on European products, so we can look for that as a preferred alternative to American.

@silvermoon82 that would be awesome.

🇪🇺♥️🇨🇦

@randahl More of this please. Become independent from us for everyone's sake.
@randahl money brought Trump to power. And now, money must be made to suffer so greatly, that it will remember a hundred years from now, and break out into a cold sweat.
@randahl Question, does this Star labeling only labels direct US products, or does it include indirect products as well, like Coca-Cola, or anything from Mondelēz International as well?
At least I try to buy nothing from US companies if there is a possible alternative around. In some segments like grocery this is easy, but in other segments like IT it is somehow more difficult and not a practicable solution due to many dependencies.
@Tom_Huth good question. I will need to check that next time.
@randahl great idea. Do they do the same with "Israeli" products? Probably they wouldn't dare, even if it came to their mind. #BDS
@GRA3432 yes. The star indicates EU products, so every time there is no star, you can turn the product to check the country of origin.
