The apparent collapse of masthead dot social, which supposedly had over 30,000 accounts, makes me wonder if there could be an instance-independent way for folks to automatically and regularly back up their accounts locally and restore/switch instances from those backups. Like through one of the apps? No idea what the technical challenges involved are. But the fact that your account can just vanish if your server host goofs up or gives up is an ongoing problem. #masthead #mastheadsocial
