Recently I've enjoyed two YouTube series: @mcoorlim 's #retro #Ultima playthrus: https://youtu.be/lFCs_cDvTi4
and Challacade's #gamdev Recreating Zelda: https://youtube.com/playlist?list=PLqPLyUreLV8D3Ckd_9UFNvEpg4xCvbL1a

This made me think of an old idea I had: making a web-based Ultima-like framework that allows others to make 2d rpgs (a little like #bitsy). Would be great if this was combined with a series of videos looking into Ultima's rpg features in depth. Sound interesting to anyone?

For today's #WebGamesAdvent game, we have "Return to the Moon: Lunar Lander 13k", made in #JavaScript with #SVG graphics for #JS13k. It is a loving tribute to the actual #Apollo lunar landing and the little genre of games that followed it.

"Min-Craft 1975" is just a limited copy of Notch's #MiniCraft. But limitations were by design because it is meant as a tribute to the #PLATO from the 70's & 80's, a system that led to quite a few groundbreaking yet forgotten video games.

It was programmed using many of the same limitations that the PLATO had (w.r.t. screen, not memory), and the underlying #JavaScript framework, #OWLBAT, could be used for future projects.

What if Minecraft were made in 1975 for the PLATO system?

Some fun for December: #WebGamesAdvent --> Post a browser-playable game for every day -- either your own if you're a developer, or some of your favorites.

Include the link; who it might be appealing to; one or more aspects you like about the game; and some #GameDev lessons learned.

Maybe a better #Turto link is to the #LDJAM page for it. At least there are a few tips on how to play listed. https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/46/turto-virtual-pet

In April of 2020, I created this fun #VirtualPet #game in #JavaScript for #LudumDare (#LDJAM): http://deathraygames.com/play-online/turto-virtual-pet/ld46/

The UI wasn't great and the gameplay was more cryptic than it should be for a #Tamagotchi clone, but I think the #SVG character was cute enough to make the game worth playing.
