Today, we remember 1971 #ACMTuringAward recipient John McCarthy, who was born on this day in 1927. Dr. McCarthy's lecture, "The Present State of Research on Artificial Intelligence" is a topic that covers the area in which he has achieved considerable recognition for his work. https://amturing.acm.org/award_winners/mccarthy_1118322.cfm
At a storage rate of 10Gt CO2 /year, the identified safe spaces would be filled to the brim in 150 years.
Besides, just to keep temperature stable once fossil emissions have stopped, it is also required to remove CO2-eq annually from
permafrost thaw 4Gt
drained wetlands 2Gt,
and maybe another 4Gt from some other area?
So just to counter the warming from feedbacks fills the identified safe carbon storage locations within 150 years.

A prudent planetary limit for geologic carbon storage - Nature

A risk-based, spatially explicit analysis of carbon storage in sedimentary basins establishes a prudent planetary limit of around 1,460 Gt of geological carbon storage, which requires making explicit decisions on priorities for storage use.

“If the fact that I am a ‘celebrity’ makes you feel silly, what dear girl do you think it makes me feel? It’s a comic distinction shared with Roy Rogers’s horse and Miss Watermelon of 1958. In a great many ways it makes things difficult, for the only friends you can have are old friends or new ones who are willing to ignore it” (Flannery O’Connor, in a December 1955 letter; ‘The Habit of Being,’ pp. 125f).

Local journalists are reporting that the Israeli military just bombed the very church in Gaza that Pope Francis used to call every night. Israel killed 2 Christians and injuring 6 more.

Was Hamas in the church now?

If you still actually believe this is "Muslim vs Jew" and not War Criminal vs Civilians, then idk what to tell you but you're helping whitewash genocide.

Dave Garbutt and the Thin Raft workshopping method for creative writing

I met my friend Dave Garbutt in 1996; the first thing I remember doing with him was attending a Neil Young and Crazy Horse concert in Zurich...

I never noticed this before today but the bike rack outside the Ontario court of justice is absolutely perfect.
Pretty sure this is the same Europe wide, and imagine how depleted the 1992 population must have been compared to 1892 or even 1592...

I sat by an election denier on the airplane and he started poking me in the arm to be emphatic about his views on people stealing ballots secretly and the airplane was full and I couldn’t move anywhere so I started explaining the yellow fever in very great detail, all the way down to telling him about the bloody vomit that looks like coffee grounds and it worked. He stopped talking to me. The moral of this story is you can’t out-weird an academic; our toolset is too vast. #vastearlyamerica
