Engineering Manager for VR Web Platform at Meta. I’d love to hear about any cool WebXR stuff you’re building. Opinions are my own.
I've always kept to #PCVR, but I actually tried #WebXR recently, and while the stuff I played itself wasn't revolutionary, the convenience is insanely high. Cross platform flash games but for #VR that are just 3 clicks away after putting on my HMD.
Awesome!
Hit testing will use as much information from the device's environment as possible.
- if you ran room setup, it will hit walls, furniture, floor, etc
- Otherwise, it will hit the floor of the guardian area
- If there is no guardian, it will hit the floor area 10m around the origin.
There's always a floor 🙂
#Quest browser 25.3 is out to 100% with support for #Webxr hit testing. Try it on in #google's modelviewer site: https://modelviewer.dev/examples/augmentedreality/index.html

When we live through difficult times it can be easy to succumb to despair, to see nothing but darkness on the horizon. But one day, in happier times, songs will be sung of those who persevered. Strive to be sung about as one who brought hope, and carried light over that horizon.

Ah, this is wild and I didn't see that one coming. Screenshots from @AFrameVR are png and on the Quest Pro the background is transparent. So... I'm pointing at an in-#XR screenshot (no camera feed) overlaid on passthrough.

PS: moving tiles around with passthrough is fun too. cc @webxr

Plenty of new ideas over the weekend. Can't wait to try and see if a sandcastle🏰🏖️🧰🧠🫶 can be built, with code, in #XR using another set of asset tiles!

In fact loading a set of tiles via a URL then sharing the result back, as a new URL, is itself an exciting prospect.😅

I’m going to tell you the story of the man who solved a crime.

Not, like, a cop who put together the clues and got his man, but a person who took a crime as old as civilization and fixed the problem where it got you in trouble.

The man: Artur Virgílio Alves Reis.

The place: 1920s Portugal.

The crime: Counterfeiting.

The problem he fixed: That the money is counterfeit.

(This is going to be a long 🧵 . Just trust me.)

Hi folks! I'm looking for a new job.

I'm a technical project manager and TypeScript/C# hacker with too much experience to list in a 500 char toot. Highlights include GIS apps, enterprise web apps, and VR apps with WebXR. I've even done a little hardware prototyping (haptic gloves, an RFID reader for cattle, a couple of small museum installations).

I come to every job with a can-do spirit, respect for business value, and deep concern for the people who use my software.
