Huh.

So, just now I learned that you can convert miles to kilometers with the Fibonacci sequence?

A mile is 1.609 kilometers.

The Golden Ratio, the ratio between Fibonacci numbers as they get large, is 1.618.

So, within about 1%. And large doesn't need to be that large, it's actually pretty accurate from about 8 onwards.

1 1 2 3 5 8 13 21 34 55 89 etc etc

5 miles is 8 km.
21 miles is 34 km.
89 miles is 144 km.

etc etc.

Kinda neat IMO.

hey #datascience nerds: can I just gush for a second on how great the combination of #ZFS and #LMDB is?

I'm working with a 2.1 TB LMDB database of academic citations. I have half a dozen processes hammering away at this at random. But between ZFS's compression and excellent caching and LMDB's clever use of caching I'm barely hitting the disk at all (99% cache hit rate), and it's only using about 15GB memory.

It's so easy to use!  You have to define a profile for each combination of connected screen you want to support, and configure which resolution / refresh rate / position of each of them (and their position if any).

What's great is that it's per-screen name so if you have multiple desktop with different screen with different quirks (dpi, refresh rate, resolution), you have to declare them all but it will always fit exactly what you wanted.
