I'm gonna put this out there: If you are new to #Mastodon and have found people to be hostile, or nitpicky, and just generally unhelpful please @ me and say hi. I am happy to walk you through this place, get you comfortable, be non-judgy about helping you, and help make this place your new home. I'm gonna call this #MastoHelper If others want to help newbies, lets do it together!
We need to do more to make people feel welcome first, that's how you create a culture people want to be part of

@ppb1701 People like Musk are inherently self-destructive, but not before they destroy everything around them. It's best to stay clear of everything he touches.

@eosfpodcast I subscribe to the statement, "You are not free unless your neighbour is free." In that sense, Musk's "free speech absolutism" is a misnomer, as free speech and consequences of that speech are inextricable from each other.

Musk seeks a reality where his brand of speech is divorced from all consequences, while he selectively chooses consequences for others' speech.

"Cancel culture" is not a witch hunt. It is simply the proper application of consequences. If a plurality of society does not agree with what you have to say, or even finds it harmful, then you simply have to accept that fact. You can change your mind about those objectionable views, or you can hold on to them and face the corresponding natural consequences.

In the end, Musk's purchase of Twitter is about power. It's Musk's way of attempting to move the Overton window in his direction so that life is easier for him, regardless of what that entails for others. This is a consistent pattern for Musk, right down to his disregard for safety concerns in his Tesla vehicles.

He is a Machiavellian manchild, who is in it only for himself. Everyone and everything else is just a tool to achieve his ambitions. People like Musk are inherently self-destructive, but not before he destroys everything around himself. The best thing for all of us to do is to stay away from him and anything he touches, including his companies and their products and services.

@louis Thanks! Now I can watch the fire burn from afar 😁

As of a few moments ago, I am completely Twitter-free. Feels great!

I posted the following on Twxtter via @GoldenPathTech, worth a share here for the pun:

Got my #BlueskyInviteCode just in time to escape this travesty of a social media platform. You might say I did "not see" that coming πŸ‘€

@DCimpulse Yeah, that sounds kind of messy. It's probably better to create a new Lemmy account instead for now.
@ben_shockley I'm patiently waiting for the Framework 16 myself. I love the company's commitment to environmental stewardship.

Is anyone here using Lemmy with their Mastodon account? Should I even bother creating a new Lemmy account? I like the idea of the Fediverse, but I feel like the concept would kind of fall apart if I end up having to create a new account for each app again.
