Toots in Dutch, English, and whatever other languages I've decided I'm qualified to use.

I know just enough about a lot of things, including something or other about the Dunning-Kruger effect.

Just like the little creature in my profile picture, I behold the world with Resting Bird Face.

And if you're more of a video person, and you have half an hour available (plus 15 minutes for questions from the audience):

If you have half an hour to reflect on important matters, I encourage you to read the Zen of #Reticulum.

This text managed to make me hopeful. With the current state of the world, I haven't had that experience in quite some time.

Definitely recommended!

By the way, using rnodeconf to set up the T-Echo was slightly easier than setting it up as a #MeshCore companion node using https://flasher.meshcore.co.uk/ and that is already a piece of cake.

My compliments to all the developers who worked on making this possible!

MeshCore - Off grid mesh radio communications system

Decided to give #Reticulum a go with a Raspberry Pi 5 and a T-Echo. It works! No other nodes around, though.

How I did it:

- Follow this guide: https://reticulum.network/manual/hardware.html

- On the Raspberry Pi 5, use pip with the flag --break-system-packages (sounds scary, but isn't)

- Get the serial port for the T-Echo with dmesg (mine is /dev/ttyACM1)

- Configure interface: https://reticulum.network/manual/interfaces.html#interfaces-rnode

Then I enabled transport and played around with #NomadNet. I'm still alone, but the configuration works!

"These reasonings are unconnected: "I am richer than you, therefore I am better"; "I am more eloquent than you, therefore I am better." The connection is rather this: "I am richer than you, therefore my property is greater than yours;" "I am more eloquent than you, therefore my style is better than yours." But you, after all, are neither property nor style. (44)."

What I imagine Dutch #MeshCore to be like in an emergency situation. Only half joking.

Today I tried getting #Reticulum running on a Raspberry Pi Zero 2 W in my home network. It seems the Zyxel router my ISP gave me is fine for regular use, but doesn't play nice with Reticulum.

Has anyone in the #MeshCore scene (or adjacent) managed to get Reticulum running over #LoRa? I'm looking for encouragement before trying to turn my T-Echo into an #RNode. 😅

Moving my family away from #WhatsApp. A tale in many acts.

Some family members have their entire social circle on WhatsApp. Sending them #Signal invites didn't work.

Over the holidays, I made sure the gifts included pre-installed, pre-configured #MeshCore companion nodes. This turned out to be a geeky gateway into having conversations about alternatives to #BigTech.

Fast forward a few weeks and I'm in a #Matrix chat with three family members.

It's a slow process, but it's worth it.

Wir alle, kleiner Vogel, wir alle.
