🚨 Well the data is back, and as I figured, the news isn't good...
#Arctic sea ice volume is currently the *lowest* on record for this time of year.
Graphic from https://zacklabe.com/arctic-sea-ice-volumethickness/
Another dataset confirms that last month was the warmest October on record in the #Arctic. The previous record was 2024. This is already a month with a very large increasing temperature trend (i.e., Arctic amplification). Not good.
Data from NASA/GISS GISTEMPv4 (https://data.giss.nasa.gov/gistemp/).
Impossible to ignore what’s happening to #Arctic temperatures in the month of November...
Data from @CopernicusECMWF ERA5 reanalysis.
August 2025 data is now available for both Antarctic sea-ice thickness/volume (https://zacklabe.com/antarctic-sea-ice-extentconcentration/) and global sea-ice volume (https://zacklabe.com/global-sea-ice-extent-conc/) from GIOMAS. Another monthly record low (globally)!
Sea surface temperatures in the northern half of the Atlantic Ocean have fallen substantially from the recent peaks (weather pattern change)... providing yet another reminder on the importance of distinguishing extreme events from the long-term trend line.

It's time for your monthly climate change update: 🫣
+ Global temperature: 📈
+ Carbon dioxide (CO₂): 📈
+ Methane (CH₄): 📈
+ Nitrous oxide (N₂O): 📈
May 2025 data is now available for both Antarctic sea-ice thickness/volume (https://zacklabe.com/antarctic-sea-ice-extentconcentration/) and global sea-ice volume (https://zacklabe.com/global-sea-ice-extent-conc/) from GIOMAS. Global volume remains near record low levels.
Despite recent budget/data threats, all of my climate visualizations are still updated. I will continue looking for alternative data streams in my free time for some of the more at risk datasets.
"the rise in the number of nights when the temperature fails to cool enough to give overheated human bodies, buildings and infrastructure any relief — a misery many parts of the country will experience firsthand this week. Here again, climate change’s influence is strong."
