@[email protected] "Opposition Leader Peter Dutton is reportedly considering suing independent MP Zali Steggall after she told him to “stop being racist”."

I thought the comment was said in parliament and so therefor enjoyed parliamentary privilege, or did I miss something?

Melbourne University mass meeting declares support for Palestine | Red Flag

More than 600 Melbourne University students have demanded that the university end its complicity in the genocide in Gaza.

Wired story on the current Covid wave... The positive is it mentioning how many cases in the US per day (at least 2 million) and even mentioning we are in year 5 of an ongoing pandemic!

Downside is the downplaying of the risk of severe outcomes for even otherwise-healthy people; exactly zero mention of the risk of Long Covid stemming from *each infection*.

So.... Good?

There’s a Huge Covid Surge Right Now and Nobody Is Talking About It

The US is in the midst of the largest Covid surge since Omicron, but with minimal testing and good population immunity, the wave is largely being ignored.

It is not that different from other massacres of civilians if you look closer. #Genocide is a process, not a single act. It must be prevented but in Gaza -as in Sebrenica and Rwanda before - the world is just letting it happen.

Huge park in Melbourne’s north to be returned to traditional owners
https://www.theage.com.au/national/victoria/huge-park-in-melbourne-s-north-to-be-returned-to-traditional-owners-20231116-p5ekm6.html

The area of land, named marram baba Merri Creek, will handed back to the Wurundjeri and Woi-wurrung people to be managed as a new park. It will protect more than 34 kilometres of the Merri Creek and have an area of 2778 hectares, more than 16 times larger than Royal Park.

I think this is a great step by the government of Victoria for reconciliation with Indigenous people, and environmental restoration and protection. As the article notes, I think this will need ongoing support from government to stakeholders until 2050 and commitment to maintaining the area for years beyond that.

Many thanks to Ellen Sandell MP who has put the government on notice again to explain how ending native logging means still logging.

“It is just over,” journalist @caseynewton told The Post.

“If you wouldn’t join Gab, or Parler, or Truth Social, there’s no reason you should be on X. I think it’s time for journalists and publishers, in particular, to acknowledge the new reality and to get the heck off that website.”

Antisemitism was rising online. Then Elon Musk’s X supercharged it.

Antisemitism has long festered on the internet, but the Israel-Gaza war and the loosening of content moderation on X have propelled it to unprecedented levels.

A lot of people using “Muslim” and “Arab” interchangeably and it’s painful to see. Call them Arab or Palestinian. One religion does not define all the people and excludes many, from Christian Arabs, to Jewish Arabs, atheist Arabs and more.
