NaNoWriMo Day 10: Writing in Memorials

November is a busy month in our household. From day 1 to day 30, we have NaNoWriMo on the brain. In the month, we also have my birthday, two birthdays of those whoā€™ve passed, the anniversaries of passings, several friendsā€™ birthdays, a local event we participate in each year, and, of course, Thanksgiving. These days lead to many reflections for me ā€“ and many memorials in written word.

NaNoWriMo 2021 Day 8: Just Keep Writing

ā€œWhat is wrong with me? Why did I write that? Itā€™s fatal trashā€¦.ā€ I think many of us can say that during NaNoWriMo. Weā€™ve written a page, chapter, or even a 10,000-word chunk of writing that we think is the worst thing ever composed by any human. And, so, we face that problem: ā€œWhat do I do now? Trash what Iā€™ve written, take the loss, and move forward from somewhere else? Or do I keep going and realize this manuscript will only ā€˜winā€™ NaNo for me and nothing else, ever? Or do I move on and just hope, somehow, I can come back in December and redeem this piece of literary vomit?ā€

After preparing for the festivities and waiting for the puja, she sat on the chair near the gate. She watched the whole neighbourhood celebrating the festival with their families, and when she looked up, she saw the skies were filled with colourful sparks. The atmosphere was filled with the sounds of bursting firecrackers. In the midst of the noise, Sahitya prayed silently for the arrival of her children.

Joy

Ever since we moved into the new apartment, I fervently desired to know - just once at least - what it felt like to be her son. Every morning sharp at 6 AM, Mummy would walk me down to the corner of the road to wait for the school bus to pick me up. It was at this corner that she would sit on the pavement with a basket selling vegetables.

NaNoWriMo Day 7: Rethinking the Strong Female Lead

So, as Iā€™ve worked on my own character development, Iā€™ve noticed something in much of the worldā€™s ā€œstrong female leadā€ design. This pattern Iā€™ve seen is this: the ā€œweakeningā€ of women and feminine characters by ā€œmasculinizingā€ the characters in order to have them considered ā€œstrong.ā€ Let me explain via some examples.
