Socially awkward penguin, rollin' hard in the land of fediverse chicks and reply guys.
Admiring water drops is a good way to relax. There are different drops on different plants: this one is on a horsetail. The drops are very ephemeral. Just a careless stumble on the next stalk and the drop is gone. Just come back a moment later and the drops evaporate. A drop cannot be appropriated.

Stunning photos of the restored ceiling and columns of the Temple of Khnum in Esna, Upper #Egypt. During a multi-year restoration project, the dirt and soot that had obscured the colors of the reliefs and inscriptions within the building for approximately 2000 years were carefully removed.
The temple is located 60 kilometers south of Luxor, Egypt.

My book Drystone – A Life Rebuilt is out in just three weeks.

I really believe in this book. It’s honest about important things, quietly subversive, funny, easy to read, and I’ve poured everything into writing it and getting it into the world as far as I can.

If you can, I’d love your help. A share, a preorder, a message to someone who might love it, it all makes a difference.

Info and links below.

Writing this book was one kind of work, preparing to let people read it is another.

There’s no blueprint for how to feel when something so personal becomes public. I've found a lot of safety in hiding away, and I've found healing in it too, so this huge step out into the world feels terrifying. I think that's why I am so low on energy. The mental preparation.

Here are a couple of adapted excerpts to read if you are interested.

But the book isn't about living with my two ex husbands, or flowers, or sobriety, they're all just part of the larger picture.

@kristiedegaris Hardly a direct comparison but, A Long Long Time Ago (IAGFA) I spent some time in magazine publishing. Putting together one of twelve titles owned, on a PowerMac (<-- lol), was aces. All very exciting stuff. Seeing my FrontPage(s) on the shelves of WHSmith felt very weird to start with.

Maybe write another book? It does get easier.

@abstractexploit

I'm at the very start of my second book, and I'm glad to hear it gets easier! Because OOFT!

I think seeing our creativity and hard work, no matter what it is, as a tangible object in the world is a huge deal. In good ways and more challenging ways.

@kristiedegaris

Does it make a significant difference whether the physical copy or the ebook is pre-ordered? Do you know if the ebook has DRM? (I'm not planning on sharing it around, but it makes it easier to open on my various devices)

@Blort I don't think it has DRM and it makes no difference to me. I prefer e books myself. Much easier to read
@kristiedegaris does requesting it at my library count?
@EukaryoticMenace Yes! I should have put that on the list!
@kristiedegaris thanks for the reminder 😊 - can it be preordered in the rest of Europe already?
@nachtet Only from the UK and the moment, unfortunately. You can order it from my publishers and they will ship.

@kristiedegaris Thanks so much!
I will enquire if my local bookshop is able to order it.

I wish you wallowing in Vorfreude (pre-joy). 😊

I am really impressed with your enthusiastic and confident announcements about your work. Your elevator pitch must have been awesome. 👍

@nachtet I love this phrase so much

'I wish you wallowing in Vorfreude (pre-joy). 😊'

And thank you!

I'm a super enthusiastic person irl, so I'm glad i can apply it to myself too.

@kristiedegaris I saw you got a nice blurb in The (UK) Times.
@kimlockhartga the two ex husbands piece?

@kristiedegaris uh. I don't know what that reference means, so maybe no? It was this one:

@kimlockhartga ohhhhh yes! They did a giveaway of my book off the back of this article I wrote for them, which is what I was referencing! It's a nice endorsement for sure!

@kristiedegaris oh okay. Now I get it! I'm having serious comprehension struggles this morning, so I appreciate your explaining.

Do you have any trade or media reviews of the book? I couldn't find any in my search.

@kimlockhartga not yet as it's not out, and that's usually when reviews happen or certainly even closer to release. I'd say the end of this month, the beginning of August, and beyond for reviews.
@kimlockhartga And reviews are coveted, it's quite hard to get them tbh. But there are definitely some coming out in Scottish publications.
@kristiedegaris this is exciting! Are you doing all of the promotion yourself or is the publisher pitching in, too, as much as they can?
@kimlockhartga My publisher is pitching in, but most publishing efforts come very close to launch or after. Generally, though, it's on authors. Publishing is very overstretched. By its own making, but still.
@kristiedegaris this is not a drill - my parents asked me about drystone walling yesterday. they are planning a trip to go see some walls in the fall. they hadn't heard about your book yet.
@cathos The book is only a bit about drystone, and lot about life (and very honest!) Which might be their thing but if not I have loads of great, free drystone resources on the website if they want more info specifically about the craft! Including a free how-to guide.
