I donโt care about Reddit but I still canโt get over what a devastating self-own it was to say โunlike 3rd party apps, Reddit isnโt profitable.โ
Like you run a site with one of the internetโs most recognizable brands, completely driven by volunteer moderators and people posting free content, and you STILL canโt make a viable business model from it? Absurd.
Day 1 #mastodon instance update:
I'm glad that #DigitalOcean doesn't charge for incoming traffic -- in 24 hours, Mastodon has cached ~1 gig of data an hour and averaged 100% CPU usage (it looks like a lot of it is media conversion).
At this rate, my object bucket will be full in 9 days but I have retention periods limited to 7 days.
Its interesting that, when searching the #reddit tag, a good 50% of the results are for amateur porn.
And I feel that is accurate representation of reddits overall traffic: a good percentage of it is porn.
