Sometimes when it's hard to keep up, it's a better use of your energy to pause instead.
40 years ago this week, "Something About You" by #Level42 entered the #Top10 at 7. It peaked at 7 on 31 May 1986. You might recognize the actress from her role as Guenevere in "Excalibur". https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zpdQQoc-gkk #1980s #MusicHistory #MusicVideo

Can we start to normalize "no"? Maybe it is the Canadian in me, but no often feels rude, but I am so fed up with companies disingenuously asking for my name, phone number, email address, birth date, etc to monetize under the pretense of "personalization" I could spit nails.

If you actually have a real relationship with me, as your customer, you won't need to ask for any of this information.

A corollary.

Once, long ago, I was hired at a new job. They gave me a big wedge of new-employee paperwork to fill out on the first day. One of the documents was a form assigning ownership of any intellectual property I came up with on my own time to the company.

I didn't want to do that, but I also didn't want to have a big fight over it. So I just tossed that form in the trash. If they really cared about it, I figured, someone would come bug me about it later. No one ever did.

People can ask you to do anything they want. But don't assume they care enough to fight over it just because they asked

I'm contracted to be in the office 3 days a week. It's totally unnecessary so about a year ago I just stopped turning up. Kept doing all my work dialling in to any meetings I needed to be in. My manager never said anything and neither did HR. The moral is, don't ask, just do.
