We are proud to announce the signature at #GGF23 of a €40m investment grant on the #MEDUSA Submarine Cable Project between @EU_Commission @eib @geant and AFR-IX telecom.
As the first digital Global Gateway project, MEDUSA will connect the North and South shores of the #Mediterranean with a long term and high-capacity fiber optic submarine cable system and accelerate international collaborative #research.

Today at the Global Gateway Forum, the European Investment Bank signed the €40 million investment grant provided by the European Commission with GÉANT, coordinator of the European National Research and Education Network and AFR-IX, who will be executing the infrastructure project to bolster digital connectivity between North Africa and the European Union through the €342 “MEDUSA” Submarine Cable Project.

As the GÉANT GN4-3N Project team celebrates the major milestone of reaching 20,000km of dark fibre or spectrum being lit, the focus remains on a busy and ambitious final year for the project that will deliver vastly increased network capacity at a lower cost than the network it’s replacing. Built around dark fibre services using
