At a Pensecola school district, there have been 150 book ban challenges this school year.
148 of them were filed by Vicki Baggett.... an english teacher at the high school!!
Baggett, a member of the Daughters of the Confederacy, even objected to "When Wilma Rudolph Played Basketball" because it it would make white students "feel uncomfortable" because "they are being white-shamed."
This woman is teaching kids.
When Wilma Rudolph Played Basketball is a book about the childhood of Wilma Rudolph, a legendary sprinter who won three gold medals at the 1960 Olympic games in Rome. The book, which is 32 pages long, is geared toward readers in elementary school. The story focuses on Rudolph's childhood and the obstacles she had to overcome to achieve success. Rudolph, for example, had polio as a child and was forced to wear a leg brace. She was told by a doctor that she would never be able to walk without the brace. But Rudolph was determined.
"Book bans may increase in 2023"
“I don’t expect this to be waning,” said Jonathan Friedman, director of free expression & education programs at Pen America. “In many parts of the country, there is a streak of extremism that is continuing to ramp up.”
This is no joke, and comics are at the top of the bookbanners hit list. I've been purged from dozens of schools.
They're coming for OUR books. They're coming for US.

FYI…
#cdFriday is an exhibition, not a competition. The intent is to counterbalance a decade of vinyl hype with CD visibility. No need to post the most obscure or valuable discs you own, just whatever you’re currently listening to. Of course add the hashtag. I’ll boost every post.
See y’all on Friday. 💿✨
