#FieldworkFriday last week I visited the exciting Early Neolithic site Eilsleben in 🇩🇪 where the university of Halle is excavating. In the '80s they dug here and found the remains of farmhouses, animals, humans, and even a mask made from a human skull 😬

The Linear Pottery culture, dated to ca 5500-4800 BCE, which this site belongs to, seem pretty macabre to us today. But oh so cool too! I'm very excited to be collaborating on this project in the years to come 🤩

@ArchaeoIain not yet!
@wannabemystiker it will next year I hope!
@ArchaeoIain yep, I use elk/moose/eland (elk in Dutch) vs red deer and the South African eland as a lesson for a students on the importance of using scientific names in papers!
It was a lot of fun presenting our elk project at the Bronze Age animal session. Such a great session too, organised by Joanna Brick & co. I left feeling very inspired! We will be back with more results soon I hope! #EAA2024
Final #EAA2024 day today, starting with a wonderful session on animals in the Bronze Age. I'll be speaking on the role of elk in this period. Always such a joy to research and talk about this cool animal 🫎
#EAA2024 off to a great start yesterday with a visit to the amazing Roman forum followed by the welcome reception there. Though I think the organisers underestimated how many archaeologists would want to have a drink in this spectacular location 😂
I took a summer social media break which was healthy but I also missed this community. I'm back in full force with lots of archaeology stuff to come. But first, this week is the #EAA2024 conference in Rome! That means 4 days of archaeology, networking and catching up with old and new friends. Very excited!
@GPJohnston yes exactly! I have a project on elk (moose) to study where they used to live in the Netherlands and what they are
